Need another Tuner but out of PCI Slots

I would like to add one more tuner for 5 total but I only have 3 PCI slots in this machine. 2 are taken with MCE500's and 1 is a Video card (the built in video is inadequate)

is there a video card with hardware tuner built in that is compatible with sage tv ? does not have to be a good video card just good enough for sage tv with a hardware tuner that sage will like.

Suggestions ??

I am also out of pci slots and need another tuner. I'll get one of the usb from haupauge.

I can't understand why the pvr 250 is the only one that does closed captions? I would think most people would want this feature?

With MCE they all do closed captions... It just a feature that Sage has never really added. The only thing that Sage did was add the Hauppauge trick to access their CC.

Hmm USB Tuner is an absolutely last resort since its an external device which is highly highly undesireable. I am going to "try" to run sage one day when its not important for me to record stuff without the additional video card IE on the internal card and see what happens.

Do you have a seperate client machine you normally playback with? If that's the case then I'd say remove the add in video card like you said.

As somebody suggested to me a while back you can buy a PCI extender card.

I bought a 7 slot Magma PCI extender.

I have 5 DTA Cards for recording OTA HD and 3 PVR500 Cards for recording SD channels.

http://www.magma.com

It seemed simpler than trying to use the "unsupported" networked encoders.

So far so good.

When I saw your reference to the Magma PCI extender I thought "Cool". Then I went to their website and checked out the vendors and saw the price!
For the price of one of those things I could build 2 more PC's! YOWSA!!

OMG! I never should have looked! I've been looking at different scenarios for increasing my wimpy main 1.5TB video and additional 600GB Library RAID5 storages and that just may be a great double duty solution. I noticed the 8 drive bays and optional redundant hot swap power supplies like I'm already running on my Sage Server. Won't be able to go hot swap on the HDs like the rest are but I think I can live with that. Now to find out if it'll work with the extra Escalade 9500S-8 I happen to have!

Thanks, I think!

mdmint...

I just bought the card and placed it into another rack mount case that matched the rest of my system.

It probably does cost the same as an additional PC would.

However this approach avoids having to use the networked encoder approach that Sage says "should work" but is unsupported.
