Strange channel number issues...

Hey There,

Well im still fighting with 3.0.14 trying to get things working.

Thus far Ive discovered a few things -
1) The nvidia mpeg decoders (sound and video) are terrible. They introduce a number of issues with sage and sound, especially in relation to HD

2) Sage has some really bizarre channel numbering issues.

For example:
CBS in my area is supposed to be on channel 39-1 which is reassigned to 4-1 using a PSIP.

It also broadcasts on 32-1/23-1 (psip)

In order for me to receive it using sage I need to use the channel number
32-23-2
Which to my understanding should be channel 32 subchannel 2 with a psip of 23

This seems to play out on a number of channels but most notably CBS and UPN.

I finally got this all somewhat working by turning on VMR9 combined with the intervideo mpeg codecs.

I still cant get CFTO / CTV HD working though - it actually crashes sage... DOH!

Now I can actually change channels again!!!

I'm quite impressed with the Nvida decoders. Software decoding is what it is but it's not too bad compared to the HD Tivo (on the same OTA content). Clearly not there, but close.

There are definitely some weird things going on in the EPG. If I try to remap a digital channel when it's tuned I get the 'no source' message even though the channel worked fine before remapping. Remove the mapping and it comes right back. Also many of my sub channels don't show up.

It is after all a beta. Sage has always played a little loose with the term 'release candidate'. In most development shops this means they believe it to actually be one. To Sage it seems to mean 'really serious beta'.

Regardless in my experience releases have been darn pretty stable. EPG 'work in progress' issues aside I am really VERY impressed with the A180/6600GT/Sage combination. Most HD PVR solutions so far haven't been very impressive so being able to use Sage functionality on at least some HD content (OTA) instead of HD Tivo has just been great.

Hope you stick with it.

peace . . .
