Import STV vs Full STV
Been reading the studio manual and haven't found the answer to this question. Is there something special you have to do to make an Import STV?
I'd like to concerentrate my effort on specific plugins and not try to create an entire STV (just yet). Related question any insight on making a plugin compatible with other existing STV's. Rick... |

I was just wondering the same thing... What considerations have to be made in order to assure that am import will play nicely with the specific STV that imports it? I searched the manual, but only found a couple of things that might pertain to an import specifically.

Oh yeah... creating STVi imports was not really covered. If you want to create imports that can be loaded from within the UI using an STVi file, I suggest you grab one of nielm's smaller imports and look to see how that file was constructed by loading it into Studio. Note that these sorts of import files are quite different from simply exporting/importing selected menus from inside Studio.

Thanks for the tips Andy. I'm cooking up an idea for an import that I've been wanting for quite a while... I even woke up this morning thinking about it! And I don't even do that about work!
If anyone else with experience has other hints they'd like to share about imports, please do!

nielm has a pretty good write up for a how-to on making imports that he might want to share.
Basically you need to make everything you create stand on its own, so make everything you use the primary reference. There are certain things that you won't be able to do that for, such as references to other screens, adding buttons and panels to existing screens, and referencing common themes. For this, go to one of nielm's STVi's and look at the code under the ImportSTV hook. Thats basically the gist of it. |

BTW: I've stolen some info from previous discussions with nielm & posted his tips in a new thread: Creating STVi imports.
