If you all you want to do is have an external app call some sage functions, then i'd look at the remote apis, as Slugger suggested. But if you want to build something in C/C#/CPP, and call it from a java stub (so that it could run inside the SageTV JVM), then i'd consider writing a DLL and then calling it from java using JNA. JNA is like JNI in that it allows you to call native code from java, but it doesn't require any JNI stubs or cpp programming. You do it all from java, by mapping the dll using their java notations. It's actually quite slick (given how much a PITA jni is).

I just need to get some info from SageTV like when's the next upcoming recording. I think I will try the remote API, sound's a lot easier that JNI. I read the JNI tutorial from narflex but my java knowledge is quite limited and it sounds very complicated. But I think the remote API is sufficient for the moment.
