Can studio do this?
How does Sage track which video file corresponds to a particular show, and is there a way to update which video file a show points at?
For example, I have a Sage recorded file called GoodEats-APieinEveryPocket-5481738-0.mpg. If I encode that file and get GoodEats-APieinEveryPocket-5481738-0.avi, is there any way to get Sage to see the new file instead of the old one?

should be automatic in V4, as long as you keep the numeric bit at the end of the file name...
If not see my HowTo on recompression video files (in customisations sticky) for v2.2...

It should work even in v2.2, based on this post in that thread, where the recording was renamed while SageTV was running. The new part for v4 is that you can also place the files in a library directory. Based on that post, I added this post about moving recordings while SageTV is running.
It is a bit more fool-proof to do it while SageTV isn't running, however. - Andy
