Hauppauge PVR-350 problems
Having problems with the TV software. It gives me this error:
There was an error with the MPEG-2 video setup. Please consult the log file and report the error. Failed connecting video stream to the Overlay Mixer. Any ideas. Jim Ambrose Dell Optiplex GX110 |

Select 'Default' for your video renderer instead of 'Overlay'. It's in Setup->Detailed Setup->Video.
Let me know the results.

Have you made the modifications required for Sage to work on MCE?

Nope, is there a link where that information is at?
Thanks for your help. |

I used this.
Look for ;AddInterface={19689BF6-C384-48fd-AD51-90E58C79F70B},%p2.Encoder%,VideoEncoder, remove the ";" line so look like this AddInterface={19689BF6-C384-48fd-AD51-90E58C79F70B},%p2.Encoder%,VideoEncoder, Del matching oem(x).PNF file Remove the card from device manager reboot. This seemed to work. I am using a Pentium III - 900mhz. Are you recording the live TV all the time? and is this a "big" enough machine to not get it to hiccup or get drop outs in the live tv play. Thanks!! Jim Ambrose |

Yes, it's recording all of the time, and on my celeron 1 ghz, I have no dropouts or stuttering, unless I'm using the dscaler filters.

But if you leave the TV on the News all day to get the update of the war it will fill up the hard drive. Also why doesn't it delete the old recorded files after you change the channel. The WinTV2000 program passes it to the screen with out recording it. You can start that function to pause it and watch from that point to the end while it is still recording. If I wanted to record the whole show I would schedule it to record and watch it later or time shift it.
I also think you need to make the TV and scheduler product into one using the same guide. This would make it more like MCE but better use of the computer's resources. Also I like how the guide is integrated but your interface is some what user unfriendly, especially when you are watching live TV on a real TV not a computer monitor. Would like to find something as good as or better than Microsoft MCE and you are almost there but need to finish the product so its graphical interface is more usable and the two products are integrated together. Thanks, Jim Ambrose |

Jim,
Let me try to address the above to make sure I understand you correctly: 1. If you leave your TV on all day it will continue recording and if it fills up the space you allocated to SageTV, it will delete the earliest recordings first. 2. The small files that get created when you change channels get deleted first when more space is needed. We will add a feature to a later release that lets the user specify these files to be deleted sooner. 3. The reason why we always record is so that you can timeshift at any time. Many times I'm watching a show and need to rewind a part I didn't catch or get interrupted. 4. I'm confused by your comment to "make the TV and Scheduler product into one using the same Guide". That's actually what we did. If you go into SageGuide you will see that you can access what's on Live TV, along with what recordings are immediately available for viewing and see what Sage will record in the future. If I missed your interpretation, please let me know. Dan

Jim, one of the biggest annoyances I have with my Dish Network PVRs is that when I change channels, the recorded buffer is erased and started over. Meaning, that I can't scroll back to before the channel change. And I've wanted to many times.
SageTV doesn't have this problem because of those "little files" it keeps. I can scroll back as many channel changes as I have disk space for because it doesn't "clear the buffer" so to speak. I really, really like this feature. If SageTV fills up your hard drive (the amount of space you set up as allocated to SateTV in detailed setup), whats the big deal? If it's been merrily recording along all day, recording a bunch of stuff that you have no interest in watching, it'll delete those recordings to make more room to continue recording. If you need that drive space for something else, then you shouldn't have it allocated for Sage use anyway. |

Re: stopping recording constantly
But can't you put SageTV in Sleep mode? Doesn't that make it so it only records what you have marked as favorites or to manually record?
Just wondering... Lauren |

Lauern,
You also have to disable Intelligent Recording for that to be true.
