HD Hardware Question

Please help me convert another associate at work to use SageTV.

I know NOTHING about what tried and true HD hardware can work with sagetv.

He needs a capture card that works with sageTV that has component in

and a TV output card that supports component in (His TV's only digital inputs are component)

How are you SageHD users setup?

Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I see the only way to capture your HD content is to downgrade it by capturing to analog (pvr-150 or the likes)
and then outputting digitally via HDMI or component.

Your wisdom is appreciated!

You'll have to forgive me, but it seems like you are asking two very different questions:

1. What video cards do we use for component output?
2. What cards do we use to capture HDTV?

1. I use a geforce 6600 AGP in my box to output to component output. Works great. Pretty much the "basic" hdtv capable card (some have gotten away with geforce 6200, but I assume with a major processor hit). I believe other options are of course geforce 6600gt's or the 6800 series. ATI, I would recommend an x700 or better (some say minimum is x700pro or better).

2. HDTV cards....HDTV cards....Everyone has their opinion which card is best for capturing hdtv. I recommend Fusion5 Lite or A180. They seem to be some of the more popular. I personally use a Fusion5 Lite, but the Avermedia A180 seems to be the most popular choice.

Is this what you are asking?

None. The closest you can get is this:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/hd/
plus one of these:

Most do now:
Geforce 6600, 7800
Radeon (almost any)

Either with a BDA HDTV card (Avermedia A180, Fusion 5) or via Firewire from a cable box.

For encrypted Cable or Sat HD (ie HD premium channels) yes, unless you get a 169time modded sat box. Otherwise a ATSC capture card or Firewire will capture HD in it's native form.
