If you can afford it... Sony Vegas.

The modest editor in Sonic MyDVD works pretty good. Ulead studio is ok... It's all going to be a matter of preference. I've tried a lot of them and those that some like others do not. It's mostly a matter of what kind of interface you are comfortable with.

1. For just cutting out commericals - VideoReDo HANDS DOWN.
2. For making DVDs and doing simple editing - Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.
3. For doing higher editing - Ulead VideoStudio 9.

I would never buy anything that says Sony on it. I refuse to support 'that kind' of company regardless of the quality of products. They have done more harm to standards based consumer products than ANY company in history (including Microsoft).

They've also done a lot to provide standards in consumer products. I don't disagree with your motives, I disagree with your boycott. If you don't like MemorySticks or DRM'd CDs, don't buy them. Take it from me: I still buy Oreos even though cigarettes are marketed towards minors.

What I don't like about Sony is the Virus platform rootkits on some of their CD's.

That's why I will never buy another Sony product no matter the quality either.

What the heck, this thread is already derailed, I'll add my 3 cents ...

To me, Sony doesn't equal quality or vision ... In years gone by I have personally had several Sony products that were junk. Even replaced one with Sanyo and got better quality! Also, I still feel the pain of the Betamax back in the 80's. Not to mention the scorn of a friend I convinced to get one.

And now this stupid DRM move making our systems vulnerable because they are so arrogant. I read they set back others from even attempting to relase protected products by 10 years.

Need I say more ....

So ... I'll have that Pioneer Flat Sceen please ... No Sony Balogna !! (sorry, couldn't hep myself)

T.
