Screen saver and Burn-In on Plasma

Just wondering what people with Plasmas are doing with the screensaver? Will the current sage screen saver be bad for plasma's because of the black background?
thanks
JUC

I wouldn't leave it up all the time definitely...

But when you get a new plasma they are usually set waaaay too "hot". Back off the contrast, brightness and basically just tone things down and it's less likely to burn in. I have my windows power saving mode set to turn off the monitor after 20 minutes of inactivity (sage screen saver) even though I have a DLP which doesn't burn in very easy (if at all). When windows does this the tv recognizes it as no signal and most will have something in the setup to turn the tv off if there is no signal for X minutes. Do that and you'll also reduce the risk of burn-in.

thanks, i am currently running it by the MVP (i know, not ideal at all given the output quality--waiting for the sage extender to be anounced) so i don't think i can use the windows screensaver option. I could just turn off the mvp and then set the plasma screensaver to kick in or just turn off the tv.
Thanks
JUC

--Maybe sage should consider coming up with a different screensaver for those Plasma owners out there--even a white background with the sagelogo would work from what I have been hearding. Better yet---an aquarium!!!!

We fix plasma TV's, black has no effect on burn in. Burn in is caused by uneven phosphor wear - for example, if you left the main menu up you'd wear away the blue at a higher rate than other colors. Black is by definition turning each cell "off" so no burn in. I suppose since black is not quite completely off (it's more like "very dark gray..") there could be some wear, but even then it would happen evenly across the screen so you wouldn't see it as burn-in.

Now... the reason I found this thread is because I had a question - why is there no way to kick in a slideshow as a screen saver rather than the bouncing SageTV logo? I have a screensaver program that does this on the machine, but because this machine is dedicated to Sage I leave it's menu up in fullscreen mode at all times rather than putting it to sleep, so therefore the screen saver program doesn't kick in and override it.

Why no setting to cycle through all pictures in a folder as a screen saver?

Work-around, anyone?

Todd

You can use a regular windows screensaver... when you hit the remote the screen saver should go away. I had mine set up for the standard windows xp saver when I first set up it... never had a problem getting back to sage.

How's this for a workaround? You can do it easily with the SageTV Studio. Follow the link and I show you how:
