Question Resolution Switching (Not just AR)

Forgive me if this is answered somewhere. I've spent about 20 mins trying to find an answer. If this is covered elsewhere, a pointer would be great!

The good news is that I haven't been to the forums in a very long time! Everything is running well for me. The HTPC has an ATI AIW 7500, MyHD100, both passing through a Key Digital Transcoder to a 4:3 HDTV.

I would be willing to upgrade hardware for the 4.0 HD capabilities, but I wondered how I would handle resolution switching. I currently am running Sage as 480p, then taking over the screen w/ MyHD when I want to watch HD (1080i). I have run Sage in HD in the past, but this required me to zoom the picture.

My question is this: If I want to have SD and the Sage UI fill my 4:3 screen, and have Sage HD run at 1080i, does the Sage application accomodate this? Would I need to Zoom/Fill, etc. using TV functions?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Assuming that you keep your 4x3 set and it supports 1080i, then you can set the default resolution at 1920x1080 and sagetv will scale the 480i video to that.

If you really want to switch resolutions (through the ati drivers) this is what I did. Get the latest ati drivers (supporting the 7500?) and then define a profile for each of the resolutions, ie 480 and 1080. These profiles can be called by a desktop shortcut. In SageTV, using Nielm's dynamic menus you can define menu selections that call these shortcuts thus giving you the ability to switch video card resolutions through the sagetv interface.

Hope this helps.
