In place recompression and AddMediaFile()
Anyone,
I have been modding an STV to do background recompression with mencoder that replaces the original recordings with the recompressed ones using AddMediaFile() and SetMediaFileAiring(). While this works great for those files that are NOT segmented, I would like to be able to service segmented ones as well. Is there a way to add multiple files with AddMediaFile() or append to such a MediaFile the way Sage does natively? --TR |

Well, no answer to my question, so I have a workaround for the time being. I still would like to know if their is anyway to assign segments to a manual AddMediaFile(). -TR |

I don't believe there's a way for a user to modify the media file segments like that. SageTV was designed with imported files corresponding to a single file. But feel free to send a feature request to betatest@sagetv.com for this, now that the Studio is out it would make sense to expose an API call for something like this.

Narflex,
I agree that at some point a segment mod feature should be exposed via studio/stv. For the time being, since mencoder allows for multiple files with like names to be encoded in order, I am recompressing segmented files into one and applying the seg 0 filename. Thanx for the reply, I was starting to think I was being ignored. I know that alot of people prefer that the commercial detection and recompression occur in stand alone fashion, but I think that STV with java/api calls is much smoother. -TR |

Sorry for the lag in response. Been job hunting, and gave the STV a rest for a while.
I finally got through the "rant", and discovered that everything there I had already learned while playing with studio. I have all the mechanics figured out for the recompression and replacement and I am happy with the results. The only thing that would make it perfect is the ability to have segmented recordings readded instead of having to reencode into one file. I would just like to have the UI represent the recompressed files in the same manner as the originals. That way I could recognized the breaks as recording errors instead of recompression errors. -TR |
