Component Video Question
I've got a Viewsonic N2750W 27" LCD...it runs 1280x720 native. There are two sets of component inputs...one set is marked YCbCr and the other is YPbPr. What is the difference? Which ones should a 6600 be hooked up to?
Thanks, P |

Usually, YCbCr means 480i component, and YPbPr means HD component (eg 'P' for 'P'rogressive). You'll probably want to hook up to the YPbPr input.

This is wrong. Both are Color spaces, and the inputs on his TV are both Analog.

Correct, these are color spaces for analog type systems like CRT tubes and digital systems like LCD screens, not analog versus digital inputs.

All this is off topic so I'll stop there.

Well then Wikipedia is wrong (shocker), the term YCbCr predated digital video. If you go back to the days before HD, you would see component outputs labelled "YCbCr". When HD and "Progressive" video came around outputs capable of progressive (vs interlaced 480i) became labeled "YPbPr" (P for Progressive), to distinguish them from the SD only inputs.
OK, wrong is a strong word, YCbCr is also used to describe digital component video, but it's not true that (or not as simple as) "YCbCr is digital, and YPbPr is analog". |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video To build on what you said YCbCr (colorspace) was used by Digital interfaces like SDI and Firewire for some old camcorders, studio switching equipment etc..., but nothing like the connectors we are talking about. These two sets of connectors just mean that one of them is only capable of the really old Pre-HDTV'ish Progressive Scan 480P type of TV sets some people had.

What better time to necro-post and raise from the dead a mummified thread on an undead forum?
