ATI Remote Wonder II Headache
I know other have gone through this, but my frustration level is so high I'll just ask rather than further ...
I installed all of the ATI software that came with the CD for my ATI AIW Video Card. This included the RWII software. When troubleshooting why my new 4.0 server was stuttering and tearing, someone recommended upgrading my video drivers. So, I went to the ATI web site and downloaded newer software including drivers. Along the install it told me I have to remove the old software first and quit the install. So, I did so with their uninstall utility. In the process of uninstall / reinstall the process bombed. Probably because I still have the remote receiver still hooked up to the USB from the original install. Anyway ... I was able to install the drivers separately and decided not to install Catalyst or Multimedia Center. When I tried to install the Remote Wonder software I get Error 1638 ... something like the software is already installed go to Add/Remove and uninstall first. So, I go to add remove and both Multimedia Center and Remote Wonder are orphaned and have no buttons for me to click to uninstall. So, I uninstalled all the drivers again and Deleted any remnant ATI files / folder I could find and used Registry Crawler to find and delete all references to ATI. I disabled the ATI SmarGuard Service and rebooted. The Add / Remove for RW was gone, but MMC stayed?? When I go to install RW software again I get the same error message over and over. I have done everything I could (I think) to manually clean up files and registry entries but to no avail. Anyone been through this horror story and have any suggestions? I really don't want to wipe the drive and start all over ... Thanks, T. |

Well ... After trying 20 or 30 different ways to get RWII installed without erroring out ... I finally stumbled on the fix ...
Here are the steps ...
I was on a roll, so I installed Neilm's ATI RW Plug-in for sage 2.1 and was able to program the "A" through "F" buttons. So ... PROBLEM SOLVED ... I hope if anyone else comes across this problem this will be of some help because it sure is frustrating for me ... and I lost a lot of productive Sage time ... Now, if I could only get the stupid ATI Multimedia Center Orphan out of Add/Remove Programs!! Oh, well ... better leave well enough alone and move on to the next plug-in ... Thanks, T. |
