always_tune_channel
Finally took the plunge and purchased Sagetv after my trial period ran out. For the most part im pretty happy with the product. There are still some things I like on the Tivo better than Sagetv in its current incarnation but reading this forum and seeing how the crew at Sagetv is always working to improve the software I’ve decided to use Sagetv instead of buying another Tivo.
I don’t know if im crazy or what but it would seem that the mmc/always_tune_channel=true property is not working properly. According to what I understand of this property it should always tune to the channel that I tune to. Here is an example of what im doing. Im using beta version 1.4.8 with a WinTV PVR2 USB, RCA Sat box controlled via serial interface. 1) Tune to channel 290 in Sagetv 2) Using Sat box Remote press channel up 3) Using Wintv Remote Press 290 or using Sage Guide select channel 290 Channel does not change back to channel 290, is this the correct result of mmc/always_tune_channel=true or should it have tuned to channel 290 by changing channel. Another question I have relating to Sat box controlling… Is it possible to send a power-on before changing channels to make sure the unit is on. I normally have my sat box turned off when im not watching tv. With my Tivo it will turn on the unit before changing channels. This would be a helpful feature in case I have my sat unit off and Sagetv changes channel to record something I have set it to record. Regards, ashen |

always_tune_channel is for when SageTV has 2 shows in a row on the same channel that its going to be recording. Normally, it would just assume the first channel change succeeded and not send any channel change commands when the second show starts. But if you have always_tune_channel set to true, when that second show starts, SageTV will send the commands to change the channel again.

Thanks for the update.
This leaves me with 2 questions can something like what i need be put into sagetv since i watch tv from my televison as well as sagetv i just want to make sure that sagetv will change channels correctly. And can the serial interface be made to always send a poweron to the sat box before changing channels? Thanks again. |
