Sage 4 is locking up when I sometimes select "watch now"
In Sage 2.1 when you hit the "enter" button on the remote while in your list of recorded shows it would then just start showing it. Now in Sage 4 it brings up a menu and one choice is "watch now". Not only is this extra step annoying, the selection has been locking up Sage, it happens about 30-40% of the time. I have to bring up the task manager and close it. Any thoughts?

Personally I love the new popup, but to each his own. I have no idea why it would be causing your system to lockup. If you press play instead of enter when selecting the show it will bypass the popup menu and start playing just like before.
You might try that and see if you still get the lockups. |

Cool, I'll try play, that makes sense. I don't need an extra pop-up sindow, I always use it to watch.

One more annoying thing, you have to close the file that is open before hitting the play button or it does nothing.

Locks up here too
My system has also locked up like this (twice).
The sagetvservice does not seem to be affected, only the gui. A longshot: Maybe it has to do with Nielm's excellent webserver v2.x ? It's the only thing I can think of that I've installed recently (used to run 1.6 prior to that) Anyone have a clue? |

I don't use the webserver.

I too have been experiencing the same problem with Watch Now. Haven't had much success with the Play button. I'm going to install the very latest Java runtime and have another go tonight.
I've also experienced inconsisten channel changing with the IR Blaster (Hauppauge) when coming out of standby. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I may even read the hefty user manual ... |

I, too, have this problem.
Right now I am running stock v4 with only the comskip .stvi import, so it's probably not the webserver. I have observed (anecdotally) that the problem is worse (occurs more frequently) when using the nvidia decoder vs. using the cyberlink decoder. I have also observed that clicking "reload media player" occasionally makes the system last longer. It would be nice if "reload media player" were a 'command' so I use could the dynamic menus to create an easy link for it. |

I thought I'd responded to this, but if you're using FSE, try turning it off.

no FSE here, my p3/833 to SDTV picture quality is just fine....

I'm running stock Sage 4, one PVR-250. I don't think I even have the Nvidia decoder. I'll check which one later (it's locked up now). It's very intermittent.

I've recently developed the same problem. Sage v4 was working fine for a week or so, but now, typically after watching one program, and selecting another, either in in the Program Guide or Scheduled Recordings, the 'Watch Now' button seems to trigger a freeze.
It's happened 4 times so far today. Are there any debug logs or any further information we can provide? |

This is getting annoying so I think I will bug-report this. In the meantime, we should all look for a common denominator?
My Setup: XPSP2, PVR-250, ATI Catalyst 5.11, Cyberlink Decoders, NVidia Decoders, JRE 1.4.10, stock v4 + comskip. |

Neo, have to tried turning off FSE?

Nope, I've always used FSE with 4.0.0. But the problem has only occurred twice last week, and I've used 4.0.0 since it was released.
robertmcox who also has the the problem says he is not using FSE, but I'll give it a try. Both times it happened to me was with recordings made with Sagetv 2.2.8, on a different PC, but with the same PVR-350. Could that be a clue? |

Promising results so far...
Last night I updated to Catalyst 5.12 (from 5.11) and Nvidia 185 (from 177)
I also went into Media Player Options -> DVD -> Advanced and set ac3filter to "prefer other codecs". Without changing this I think nvidia audio decoder is never used, even if you if specifically tell Sage to do so. (someone correct me if this not accurate) In Sage, my settings are: Video Decoder = nvidia Audio Renderer = default directsound Audio Decoder = nvidia PQ is great and we've had a full morning of 1/2 hour cartoons with no problems yet.....Thread is subscribed so I'll post back if the issue is/isn't resolved after another day or 2, but I would have expected to see the problem by now. |

YAY! Finally someone else is experiencing this too!
I already submitted a bug report last month. Please do the same. Since my bug report submission, I even went as far as duplicating the same issue on another PC with totally different hardware and I reformatted my original machine last night and am still having the same problem. Quote:
