Those instructions are for network encoders & you should be able to do the same thing to make a network encoder out of a SageTV Linux installation.

But, to use a Linux system as a client, see this entry in the Linux forum FAQ thread.

I don't know if a Linux system can be both a network encoder + a client; I don't think I asked about those details yet.

Awsome, that answered so many questions. Are there any plans for a non oem linux version, something you could use with an already existing linux system?

I know you can use the current linux version as a client but the pricing is a bit scewed compared to the the windows version... are there any plans for a linux client?

And one last question, can you seperate out sageTV from the OS, as in, is it possible to make whats there into my own package to use on my own version of Gentoo? Is it already it's own package within Gentoo already, or is it so integrated with the OS that you cannot use it with any other installation of linux, other gentoo distros included?

OK... I generally find it better to not reply when I either don't know the answer, or the question relates to theoretical products about which SageTV has made no announcements, rather than to post "I don't know" and "no comment" all over the forum. I already make enough guesses about things I'm not sure about & I'm not going to speculate on product development. But, if you really want a reply, then:

1) no comment

2) no comment

3) I don't know, but my guess is that it may or may not be possible.

Well, thank you for the response. That's really all I wanted, was an answer or I don't know. Been kinda waiting for something for a while.

P.S. I get the desire not post I don't know and no comment all over.

Once the network encoder is set up, you can use the '-client' parameter to use the UI in client mode to connect to the main server. You could probably use the -connect param too. (p. 231 in the manual for params.)

Probably a really dumb question, but does this "server" install then require a server license, or a client license? I dont want to purchase the wrong one.

If you are using SageTV as a network encoder, then it has to be an installation of SageTV, not SageTVClient, so that would be a server license. (i.e.: at least 2 server licenses: 1 for the server, 1 for the network encoder)

Ok, will have to order another server license, or figure out if there is some way I can make use of my linux server license, but so far, havent had any success with the whole linux install. Thanks for the response Andy.
