Problems with Audio Input
I'm having trouble with the audio on my SageTV (WinDVR handles it correctly). I have my audio_out of my STB PciTV card connected to the CDIN of my sound card (only internal connector on the sounds card). Where can I tell SageTV to use the CDIN for the Audio on that tuner?
Thanks in advance. |

What kind of tuner do you have?
If it is a software encoder, then you would normally be choosig the audio input right after selecting the tuner input. The Audio Input option is also shown on the Source Details screen after the source has been configured. - Andy

I found "live_audio_input=" in the sage.properties file and I played with it a bit until I stumbled onto the correct value (which was 3) and all is good in the world again. ![]() I have a STB brand, Model PciTV, a BTxxx card from about 4-6 years ago. It works great in WinDvr. Yes, it's a software encoder, and Yes, Sage TV allows me to select my "Realtek AC97 Audio" for the audio source but it does not allow me to select which input of the "Realtek AC97 Audio" to use. I assume it defaults to the LineIn, but I need to use the CDIN instead. WinDvr allows me to select which input to use. Thanks again for the help. This is a great product and as soon as I get to build a server for it, my home will move into the digital age ![]() BTW, sorry to post in the wrong forum, I thought it was more to do with SageTV software settings so I put it there ![]() Last edited by Nightrader_; 12-16-2005 at 11:08 PM. |

That's funny -- I saw the STB comment, but I thought it was Set Top Box.
![]() I was going to suggest something, but while typing this, I see you figured it out. ![]() However... I have to add that if you want to get the best quality recordings, you should look into a hardware encoder tuner. The recordings will look much better and they will use very little cpu power while recording. Oh -- and I just usually use the Hardware forum for anything related to trying to configure any sort of tuner. ![]() - Andy

I also have a Creative VBDVCR which IS a hardware encoder. At this point I'm still testing software. So far nothing is as good as SageTV (IMHO). I will most likely use a couple of the Hauppauge hardware encoders (maybe the 250's or a 500). The config I'm envisioning is a two server setup with a couple 250's or a 500 in server A and a couple HD cards in Server B. I'm hoping to make this all look like one unlimited tuner to the user (my kids mostly). On my P4 3.0Ghz (w/HT), I get about 30-40% CPU usage while recording with both cards. It goes up to about 70-85% if I start watching a prerecorded show while recording with both tuners. I pegs out if I try to watch one of the shows being recorded. |

Update: After reinstall, live_audio_input=3 no longer works
Ok, I did a reinstall ( I screwed the last install playing with older STV's), anyway when I edited the live_audio_input and set it to 3, it did not work, I still get no sound. As far as I can tell the only thing that is diffrent is the order that I added the cards during install. This time I selected the PCITV card first.
BTW, I deleted the entire SageTV tree from my drive before the reinstall. Can anyone explain what the Property "mmc/encoders/xxxxxxxxxx/live_audio_input=" actually supposed to do? Thanks Nightrader_ |

more info
Ok, I have played with it some more and here are the results.
SageTV (4.1.?) will not select my CD_IN instead of the LINE_IN. I have set live_audio_input= to every value between 0-9. Still SageTV always selects the Line_In. If I manualy select the CD_IN in the (windows)Volume Controls Recording page then sagetv works until the next time it tries to change channels (or any other action that manipulates the audio hardware). So my question is "How do I tell SageTV to use the CD_IN input instead of the Line_In input on my sound card?" Thanks in advance. Nightrader_ |

5.0.1 seems to fix the problem
I installed 5.0.1 and the always selecting "line-in" for software encoding problem seems to have gone away.
I have it set to CD-IN |
