TS/TP streams on SDTV
Okay, so I have a question....How much "power" do I need to display HDTV ts/tp streams on sdtv at say 640 and 480? The reason for it, is that several of my broadcast channels come in somewhat poor thru my cable but I can get a VERY strong signal thru OTA hdtv, so I was thinking of using my old sage box to play ts/tp streams from sage (obviously I can't use a mediamvp since they can't decode ts and tp streams) so I was wondering if I am only playing ota hdtv at 640x480, can a 766 mhz celeron decode thru say an fx5200, or because of the file size, do I need a faster proc/vid card?

It doesn't mater what size you're outputing the video, it still has to decode the full HDTV video. On my 2.4 Ghz P4 with Geforce 4 MX the cpu utilization is around 20% viewing SDTV, but uses 90-98% viewing HDTV using the most efficent video renderer I have installed. Everything is output at 720X480 to my SDTV.
Have you complained to your cable company? Last edited by malore; 12-30-2005 at 01:56 PM. |

That was what I was concerned about. I was hoping that it wouldn't have to render the whole image and rather could just "pick" and choose the pixels it decodes. So be it. I will just go back to my original plan and that is to just use my HDTV client as the only one that plays the ts/tp streams and use a mediamvp in my living room. The image that comes thru my cable on my broadcast channels aren't horrible, but definately not nearly as good as non broadcast channels.
