Tagging MP3's correctly

Okay, so I have been using sage almost solely for PVR and have decided that I now want to load up my CD's into sage (obviously into MP3). What software is everyone using to get the ID3 tags right? I have ripped a few just using itunes, and they obviously aren't tagged right because sage only loads them up in the general song title list, but not in the album list.

Wink

Yep, I use Musicmatch also. Can take awhile if you have a bazillion songs to fix but it finds just about everything I've ever thrown at it..

Used to sit and watch Sage on one monitor and fix songs on another. My old 200 disk Sony CD player got emptied so I could put everything on my newfangled computerized Tv watching, music listening, and picture viewing machine... (Really just my Sage server...) Kinda miss watching all the cd's spin around in there waiting for it to find the right one...

Yeah, I'm pretty easy to entertain

I use two free programs, CDEX and THE GODFATHER.

CDEX finds the songs, titles album info from the web and then lets you copy to various formats, including MP3. It's quick and real EASY to use.

Using most default settings on CDEX will create MP3's for sage that work beautifuly without any modification. It will save the albums in thier own folders, by artist then album, so if your like most of us, and have a collection of one group, the albums will be classified as such:

MY MUSIC,
.............MP3,
..................ARTIST,
............................ALBUM 1,
............................ALBUM 2, etc...

I have my PC's on a network, so when I get a ton of CD's copied, I just copy it to my folder on the SAGE BOX (Or you could access it from the network I suppose), and just refresh the media player and I'm golden.

I use THE GODFATHER (TGF) for the tons of older MP3's I got from every where before I organized. This program is pretty easy, but has a decent learning curve. It's full windows interface helps you retag, edit and do just about ANYTHING imaginable to an MP3, including adding the album picture to the files. I did this for a while, but when sage TV got the ability to use a Jpeg in the album folder, I just started to download the pictures for amazon.com and saved them as "folder.jpg" in the appropreit folder. Sage used them that way just fine.

I use The Godfather exclusively for ripped CDs and for purchased mp3 without proper ID tags. I use the allmusic plugin that will import all information from www.allmusic.com for your album into the tag, including album art, commentary, composer info, etc.

It will also look at all your music and list any that do not have complete tag information. I've used this to find problems with tags that kept Sage from handling the file correctly.

I use MusicBrainz when I have files with poor or no tagging. It does a pretty good job typically.
