What's the diff between .XML and .STV?

I want to install some STV imports, and trying to follow the general module install instructions. It says to make a copy of the default stv, and then point SageTV to use the copy insetad of the original.

Right now in my SageTV settings, it is pointing to SageTV3.xml. But I have both a SageTV3.stv and SageTV3.xml in C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3. So which is the one I should copy and point to, the XML or the STV? Or do I copy both, but then which one do I make SageTV use?

with the new .xmls' you don't need to do the copy thing anymore. If your pointing to SageTV3.xml and import an .stvi, Sage will automatically create a new SageTV3-1.xml, and use that one. Your original SageTV3.xml is sitting untouched if you ever want to go back.

edit: each import will increment up as -2, -3, etc. it makes it easy to roll back imports.

Also, to reiterate: v4.1 now comes with SageTV3.xml & that is the latest version; i.e.: the one you should import into. SageTV3.stv may still be there, but is not the one with the latest STV changes. (Yes, "STV" still refers to both .stv and .xml files.)

The import process is briefly described at the bottom of p. 182 in the v4.1 manual. A new .xml file will now be created regardless of the STV type you started with.

If we are on version 4.1 why don't the stv/xml version numbers reflect that? I.e. SageTV4.1.xml ?

Because it is the 3rd iteration of the UI... it wasn't redesigned for v4. At least, that is the prevailing theory that makes the most sense.

So you can skip a version number in the overall product, but not the skin that it comes with? I don't think anyone will be kicking and screaming if you change it, plus it lessen the confusions. I think changing to XML format is big enough change to warrant a version number change. I too think it should be called SageTV4.xml.
