Setup and Video/Audio MPEG Selection
Hello - I'm a little confused about something. I have 2 WinTV 500 boards and 1 WinTV 150 board in my server. By default under Detailed Setup, Video/Audio, MPEG 2 Video Decoder Filter and also MPEG 2 Audio Decoder Filter the SageTV mpeg is selected. Is this correct? I am thinking it would be most efficient to be sure Sage is using the Win TV mpeg encoder and decoders on the Win TV boards.
I'm very confused about which ones to select. First, is there anything I need to do at the server since I'm not running SageTV on the server (only SageTV Service Control)? Second, at the clients do I select SageTV, Default or some other choice? Thanks again, Mike |

The decoders have nothing to do with your capture cards, they're used for playback not recording. Most people like the Nvidia decoders. There is a 30 day free trial if you want to see if they help improve your PQ.

What does PQ mean? I have the Nvidia decoder software. But, do I install it on the clients or the server or both (sounds like I don't need to worry about it on the server if I'm only running SageTV on the clients)? Why is the Nvidia decoder preferred over the Sage mpeg decoder? Thanks, Mike |

PQ = picture quality
You only need to install it on the client. It does a better job of deinterlacing. |
