DVD in 1.4.1: Can't turn off subtitles
Hi, guys -
I suspect this is not a SageTV thing, but I don't know where to look to solve the problem. Maybe someone can point me in a new direction? I just installed 1.4.1, and everything looks GR8. I popped in a DVD to test that whole thing, and I'm seeing subtitles. "Oh, oops" I said and went to the DVD menu to turn them off. No go. I went to the context menu and toggled the "Subtitles on/off" setting, and then I got TWO sets of subtitles. Wacky! For lack of a decent description, the "new" subtitles looked smoother. They were in yellow text, and would turn off if I used the DVD menu (or the Sage menu) to turn them off. The ones that won't go away look more like closed captioning. Ugly white text on a black background that obscures the picture behind it. Like I said, since I could use the Sage menu to turn on and off the yellow subtitles, I think there's something else controlling the ugly ones - but I haven't any idea where to look. I have PowerDVD installed and am using the Cyberlink decoder to watch video. The rest of the system is a PVR250 on an EPIA M9000 motherboard. Suggestions? Thanks! R |

What you're seeing is Closed Captioning. This can happen if you select Default for the DVD Video Decoder. To fix it, go into Setup->Detailed Setup->DVD and select the Cyberlink Video Decoder (or whatever you have installed) for your DVD Video Decoder.
That should fix it, if not, let me know.

I am having a similar issue.
My DVD Video Decoder is set to default - I have 3 others to choose from, all of which will error out when attempting to play a DVD. They are InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder, SageT MPEG Video Decoder, and fddshow MPEG-4 video decoder. Any suggestions here? The subtitles are making me crazy! Can't turn them off. Thanks |

None of those decoders can decrypt a commercial DVD. You need to purchase a real decoder like nVidia or WinDVD. Or use Dscaler5 which is free.
