Complaint about moderators

I am new to Sage (like many people here)

But I am suprised as the treatment by the moderators.

I obviously posted in the wrong forum. And it was moved. But I didn't realise this, so I posted again in what I thought was the correct forum with a link to my original post. I even stated in the new post, that I was sorry - I thought I had posted in the wrong forum.

To my dismay, it seems that a moderator has taken it upon himself to delete my second post.

Well I can see that the moderators are really nice - and send me a message saying that my post was deleted or reposted. (Yeah Right) Great way to treat a newbie.

A little advice. Inform your users. This is a great way to p1ss new customers off. A simple autmated email or Personal Message would suffice. I could then either reword my post to be more accurate or accept the reposting.

Not only that but Mr Moderator re-posted in the wrong post. There is nothing wrong with my hardware - it is NOT a hardware issue - I have confirmed this with several other installs and products. It IS a software issue.

And while everybody maybe able to see new posts - they will often be ignored by users based upon the forum they are in.

Great support. While I understand that you may want to control the content of your posts - maybe a little communication would be in order.

Great introduction to SAGE. Not impressed with the forum moderators.

And this will probably be deleted too!

I am not impressed with every user. Does it matter? The forum is great and so is its moderator.

I probably deleted it becuase it was essentially a repeat post pointing people to a question that had just been posted. The forum rules (#3) ask that you not post the same thing in multiple places. The people around here who answer questions will see it no matter where it is posted; they don't need to end up reading the same question multiple times... it isn't fun to try answering something & then find out it was already answered in another place.

I sometimes don't send a PM for such deletions.

Heh... that's a good one. I was trying to figure out who 'moderator' was until I saw the complete text of the post.

AMEN!

That alone was one of the reasons I switched.

And after seeing the Linux OEM version go on sale to the public, and seeing the video from CES of yet-to-come features ("Place Shifting" indeed! ), I'm glad I "upgraded" to Sage.

I can attest to that. My account no longer works properly there. When I post in the BTV forum, no one answers. Why? Because no one can see my posts. They locked my posts out from every one else's view. I complaint to their moderator once and got no response. And I'm a PAYING CUSTOMER, I own BTV. What an f'ed up company. Granted, I did complaint about their pricing schemes and a few other things, but locking my posts is just unjustified. I had to create a new account to get some posts going. When I switched to SageTV, the first thing I noticed is how much better the forum support is than BTV.

So don't bash Opus4 for his hard work. I said this before, he's the best moderator of ANY forum I've been to, big or small.

It's not just the forum support - the official tech support here is great too. A definite improvement. from that other company.

Andy and others

There is nothing wrong with the TV Card Hardware. I pulled the card out, replaced it with another PVR500 - same affect. Both PVR500 work with GBPVR and Meedio. There is just something odd with SageTV. I believe it to be a SOftware config issue that I am missing.

As for the forum - I received a lovely Personal Message from one of your forum users. Really nice. Very encouraging and supportive. Really impressed. If all the forum users are like this - then yes you trully do have a great cummunity.

As for why I posted this message. Well I read the rules and posted according to where I thought it belonged. Then to find it the post moved. Thought I was going mad. So posted again with a link to the original and additional information.

Then come back a little while later to find nothing. Again I really thought I was going made. Then I realised - Andy had stepped in.

So my point (a suggestion really) is this. If you Move a post. Just tack on a simple message saying "Moved". SInce it came from a moderator - we will understand.

If you delete a message - send a PM.

That way we the author knows what is happening and dont spend 1/2 hour trying to work out
1) what is wrong with our mind
and
2) what is wrong with our internet connection such that our posts aren't sticking.

I started this HTPC hobby about two months ago. I spent a TON of time researching SageTV, BeyondTV, Meedio, MCE, gbPVR, etc. What I found was no solution offered everything I wanted, but in digging into things, one thing that swayed my opinion towards Sage was the AWESOME forum here and how it caters to the user community. And as a newbie, FWIW, I made the same mistake at first.

So, in your defense, while I do think you might want to spend a little more time here before you get too hot under the collar...it would be nice if the forum offered a feature such as I have seen on other forums that would be akin to the "New Posts" but is "filtered" for only the threads to which you have personally posted something. I realize you can do something like this, if not exactly like it with the search function, but a one-click solution would be a "nice to have."

Regardless, I can't say enough good things about the forum. Give it a chance.

I think you still don't understand what the hardware forum is for. Yes, it may be a software problem that's causing your hardware not to function properly with Sage. Those types of questions still belong in the hardware forum.

The software forum is for questions like how can I make Sage record HD and SDTV versions of the show or why didn't my favorite record. Basically questions that are strictly software related.

My suggestion is you can also take your own advice. If your post has been moved, you can edit that post and tack on a simple message asking "Why was my post moved?" Or send a PM to the moderator if you don't know why your message was deleted. Rather than posting a public complaint, making a big fuss over something that shouldn't be.

But since everything is settled, lets just have some

A Possible way to find your message if it were moved,
click on the 'user CP' then click on 'View all Subscribed Threads'

I can't confirm that this will work as I haven't had a thread moved in some time.
