Playback of .vob files
In version 2.x of sage I had been able to take .vob files, rename them to .mpg so sage would import them, and then play them back just fine in sage. Now Sage locks up when I try to play them back. What do I need to do to make these playable?

Sage will import ripped DVDs and play them fine if you retain the structure (VIDEO_TS folder with IFO and VOB files).

I understand, but it is a little late to do that. I have a lot of files. I am wondering what changed to make these unplayable. They all work fine in Zoomplayer.

Update. I re-ripped one of the DVDs and then used the program vob2mpg that is supposed to convert the series of vobs to 1 standard mpg file. Sage still locks up on this though.
Edit: I also re-ripped the movie and left it in the original Video_TS folder. I get about 2 frames of video followed by sage locking up. I have three machines running Sage, using different hardware and different decoders. All produce the same response. Last edited by ldavis; 01-20-2006 at 07:26 PM. |

Make sure you're ripping in file mode and it is in movie titie\VIDEO_TS format. Make sure none of your decoders (audio and video) are set for default. Specify the decoder. Other than that I have over 100 rips playing fine with the latest version of Sage and nVidia decoders.

Please share your decoder setting. Also, I am wondering if the Java version could have an impact. What are you using? What additiojnal Sage customizations.? The only one that I am using is the webserver? Thanks Lain |

Renderer: VMR9, Video Decoder: nVidia decoder, Audio Renderer: Directsound:nVidia nForce Audio, Audio Decoder:nVidia Audio
nVidia Decoder settings: Smart, prefer VMR9, Pixel Adaptive, using DXVA, DD5.1 Server Java: Sage install 1.4.2_06 Client Java: 1.5.0_06-b05 Running CallerID, Webserver 2.4 STV-SageMC and also in the Default Try playing your rips in another media player-other players can play rips. If they don't play in other players you're doing something fundamentally wrong in the rips. Gerry

They are fine in the other players. My original problem with renamed vobs still remains but leaving the Video_TS folders fixes the problem on the clients. What fooled me last night was that I was doing all this on the server and the problems remain on the server. So now I can watch the rips on clients but not on the server and I think this is something completely outside of Sage. Any ideas?

I'm out of them. I'm watching the rips on the server with no issues.

I never caught what decoders you're using.
FWIW, I've now got over 250 DVDs ripped to my media Server and haven't had any problems playing them. |

Fortunately for me I do not watch these rips on the server, so this is now more of mystery than a problem. FWIW, I have tried Cyberlink,Nvidia,Intervideo, and Sage decoder without success. Probably would need to do a complete Windows re-install to eliminate the problem if I cared that much but I don't. As I said, I do not think this is a Sage issue.

I am really interested in this question, also.
I have a large VOB file that is obviously a MPEG2 video and AC3 audio. I can use many different packages outside of Sage to play the file just fine. PowerDVD, windvd, media player, etc...But when I import it into sage and then try to play it, the system give me a file playback error. If there is a way to play them in Sage, that would be my first choice.. second, I guess I could conver the VOB to an MPEG2 third I could recreate the whole movie file with IFO's Iso's, and BUP's and VOB.. I like the first option, please help.. maybe an option might be to use a powerDVD plugin to play the file in powerDVD and then come back to Sage when it done.. Gary |

By making it a VOB/MPEG Sage will use the "standard" video/audio settings vs the DVD settings (actually for a VOB it might just rely on Dshow to choose decoders). Make sure you've got a decoder capable of AC3 selected in the Audio section.
