You don't need an encoder for HD, it's broadcast as MPEG-2.

If not then wouldn't the one I mentioned before probably be the best bet for me since I'm out of PCI slots but have open PCIe slots?
Probably, but it's still not very exciting

EDIT: Oh and what about the component input? Isn't that something not currently available? Or is YPrPb not the same as component?
If you've got a couple thousand dollars to blow, and don't care if it's horribly user un-friendly, go for it

You think that dual tuner vBox card will be a couple grand?

No, HD component capture is probably $2k at least, probably closer to $5k if you figure in the whole system.

Gotcha. What about the YPrPb input on that vBox card according to the diagram on this page:

It's only SD.

For HD, you need something on the order of :
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ist&sku=408186
Plus a storage solution reasonable for >100GB/hour and >200Mbps (26MB/sec) sustained throughput.

Guess it's more like $3k these days.

Gotcha. How can you tell that it is only SD? What is the indicator for that? I completely believe you I'm just trying to learn a little here. Thanks for all the info so far!

Mainly I had a feeling, anything capable of HD component capture in consumer (under $200) space would be a big surprise, but then if you click the link to the IC:
http://www.micronas.com/products/by_...xya/index.html

You'll see it only mentions SD formats. eg:
"Square pixel format (640/768 pixels/line)"

Isn't SD from 320 to 480?

SD is 480 (or 576 if PAL) lines, but 640 pixels per line. ie 640x480. Though often rectangular pixels are used which results in DVD's 720x480 resolution.

OK I get it now. Still confused on what the 768 means then.
