Disable FSE mode when SageTV minimized?

Is there a way too do it? Its quite annoying as it prevents me from running a lot of programs. Instaed if SageTV disabled FSE mode while minimized I would not have to exit the application so often.

-Matthew

PS. I already run in the service mode so I know I can do that without losing my recordings but it is still annoying.

I noticed this happening, too. I crossed my fingers that everything would still work and upgraded to the latest JRE. Seems to work fine now. (I hope)

Wait so you are saying since you upgraded your JVM you can run a 3D application while SageTV is minimized?

EDIT: I'm using the 3D visualizations in media player as my "3D application". These did not work fullscreen when I was running sage with the 1.4_6 version of the JRE. But is working with 1.5_6

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I'm not sure, but I think that FSE is a feature of Java that sage utilizes. Perhaps there are some bugs in the older versions of the JRE that cause the incorrect behavior that we saw (sage minimized to system tray, and unable to play movies outside of sage full screen)

Ok. I've just started playing around with it more and am still having some problems, albeit the problems seem slightly different than before. Certain apps can run full screen (and they couldn't before), but certain ones can't.

Certain apps can fall back on 2d methods for rendering whereas some applications can't. WatchDHTV for example won't run while SageTV is running with FSE enabled.

Hi,

Similar problem here. If sage is set for FSE zoom player will not work. I get an error about not being able to create VMR renderer (or even the overlay renderer if I switch to overlay). If I shut down sage, or if I set sage to VMR9 and no FSE and set zoom for VMR9 windowless I am good.

Zoom in Renderless and sage in FSE are a no go.

I am still using the Java version sage installed. Last time I let it update I had very regular UI crashes.

It was my understanding that when Sage is sent to the tray, it's supposed to give up FSE and there is a property that covers it. Is this not happening? (I know there is/was a problem with TT...but I just use Sage for DVD's).

I wish it gave up FSE, but for some people it is not. Can anyone confirm they are running in FSE mode and it is giving up the FSE so other 3d applications can run?

Also, what do you mean by there is a property that covers it?

Hi,

Quote:
ui/unload_3d_on_sleep=true
I checked my props file for this line and it is set to "true." Obviously not working for me.

It would be good to hear if from anyone for whom this is not a problem.

I just checked, I do have that option enabled. Is this working for you? It is NOT working for me. You have a very similiar setup compared to mine.

For a work around, I just installed the "exit sage" plugin, and then modified my sage shortcut with the parameter -startup so I can re-open sage with FSE enabled. It takes longer to re-open sage, but I quit minimizing to the tray for the reasons mentioned above. In the "exit sage plug-in" thread, Neilm showed how you could change the behavior of the sleep icon using studio to just exit the ui. But this would only be advisable if you are in fact using the sage service. It seems like this is an issue that Sage should fix sometime. There appears to be a property for it, but it doesn't work as we would assume. I think some things get fixed and some things get pushed aside in each beta release. I know there is an encoder merit thread that discuses a property that doesn't seem to do anything when you adjust its settings.

Just keep submitting bug reports.
