What is vivo used for

I've read here and other places that although you have a card with vivo, you'd still need a tv tuner to record live shows and other things concerning bringing video in to a pc.

If this is true, then what is vivo used for?

At the moment, I don't have a tv tuner, but I what to start transferring shows that I have saved on my dvr to clear up space; also, there are a couple of shows that I want to record as well.

Will vivo do this for me or not?

Using vivo and a sound card will give you sync problems between audio and video.

Using vivo would only be for a short period of time until I get my pvr-500. Hey, I've spent between $1200-$1500 already

I can fix sync problems with virtual dub.

How do I set this up? Movies stored on my dvr to pc?

I don't think there is a way to specify seperate a/v sources in sage so you would probably have to capture in a different app an import to SageTV. Hardly seems worth the effort, I'd wait for the pvr500.

So basically you're saying that sage can't record movies that are stored on my dvr.

That's not what Sage was designed for. I have a FX5700 video card with VIVO. All I did was use Nero and connect up my vcr to transfer tape to DVD. You should be able to connect up your DVR the same way and use Nero or Roxio the same way. Those apps were designed to do what you want to do.
