IVL 0.5

In the never ending quest to improve SageTV's video library, the fair-weather STV developer strikes again IVL 0.1 takes inspiration from a few places, DVD Profiler, Theatertek 2's browser, a bit of SageTV Detailed info, all mixed together with a bit of insanity. OK, I'm not sure what I'm smoking tonight, but it must be some good stuff

Seriously though, intermixed in the crazyness of the above paragraph is some real info, I've reworked the Video Library Folder View to take care of a couple of the things that annoyed me and to add a couple things I thought would be nice, the end result is this:

I suppose some usage comments are in order. That view shows the basic theory, the folder view will show you, simultaneously the list of recordings, and some info about them. "Right" or "Select" will bring up the options popup ( gotta change that ). Some refinement is needed there.

But that's not all!

If you hit an item with sub-items (like a folder) it will display the subfolders available. In this case "Right" or "Select" will take you into the subfolders.

Comments are welcome and expected.

To install:
  1. Extract the archive to your SageTV directory (the one containing the STVs folder) - maintain the folder structure present in the zip file.
  2. Import the stvi from inside SageTV
  3. For DVD Profiler support:
    1. Install DVD Profiler
    2. Add your DVDs
    3. Export your collection as an XML file from DVD Profiler
    4. Browse for and select the XML in the Library Import menu

If you have trouble with Videos not being found in the XML, doublecheck that they are spelled the same way as in DVD Profiler except for illegal characters.

Have fun

Talking Way Coo!l!

I like it but I don't want to have to learn studio to use it. Any chance you can make it an import for us lazy people?

Any chance you use SageMC?

Twould be cool to see in SageMC...

But, maybe that's too much of a detailed view, to keep with the simplistic approach, who knows...

The way things are now, it's easier for you to learn enough of studio to add it than for me to learn how to do an STVi

Basically it's like this, say you want to use this instead of the default library:
  1. Open Studio
  2. Save a copy of the current STV
  3. Go to the Media Center page
  4. Ctrl+Shift+F12 - (takes you to where the menu is defined)
  5. Expand the menu and the "MainMenuContainer"
  6. Expand "Imported Videos"
  7. Delete the "Video Library Folder View" menu link
  8. Scroll down to the "Video Library Stanger89 View"
  9. Drag "Video Library Stanger89 View" up and drop it on the "Imported Videos" item.
  10. Press F6 to refresh the menu
  11. Try it out.

I was kind of hoping mlbdude would incorporate it

Can you import this with Dynamic Menus? If I use studio to import this would I mess up the Dynamic Menus?

Honestly, not knowing how Dynamic Menues work, I'm not sure. But, I think you might be on to something.

First it shouldn't break anything, in fact, just importing it should have no effect, it's an entirely self contained menu that I simply exported with Studio. If you import it, it will be there, but there will be no way to use it.

Now, if the dynamic menues will let you specify the name of a menu, you could probably link it in that way. The name of the menu is "Video Library Stanger89 View".

yep -- thats how they work -- when adding an internal screen in the dynamic menus, it presents a list of all screens in currently loaded STV...

Stanger, I think something is wrong with the way you exported it. First I tried your STVi then the seperate STV you posted and they are both missing stuff. Specifically the "Album Theme" isn't really working so to make it work I expanded the Album Theme tree in your menu and deleted that tree. Then I dragged down a shortcut to the "Album Theme" widget from the original Video Library into your menu and all was good again. If you try the STV you posted you'll see what I mean about stuff missing on the top like the Sage logo and clock etc.

Oh and do you have instructions on how to go about adding detailed info for each item? BTW I like this view very much and added it via Dynamic Menus as an alternative option and kept the original as well. Nice work!

Actaully I exported it quite a while ago , so I'm not surprised. But yes I noticed that the theme wasn't quite right.

As for how to get the info, basically it needs to be there. I'm working on that though

Give the import a try again, it should include the metadata import menu now as well. Accessible via the options (Esc) command while in the menu. You'll need a DVDProfiler XML export for it to point to.

Set the property:
mlbdude/meta_data_collection.xml=W\:\\collection.xml

to point to the location of the export.

While you're in there, you can scroll through your imported files, to see how the DVD profiler data compares to the Sage native data, and selecting an entry will remove it (in case you con't want to overwrite the current data.

Also, it won't overwrite native data if it can't find a match in your collection. Just extract it to your SageTV directory.

-edit

Oh, You'll need the latest DVDPro2Sage to use the importing functionality.

-edit

You can also use neilm's webserver to edit the show information if you want.

I do have something you guys could probably help me with

One thing I've been having a heck of a time figuring out how to deal with is collections. Most specifically the ones with mulitple discs that come with a single SKU/package (Ultimate Matrix Collection, TV show packs, etc).

Comments would be welcome.

Update 02/07/05

Thanks to neilm's awesome "generic importer" I've attached a Real, importable without studio STVI for this. Give it a try. I'll post it in the downloads if response indicate it doesn't lobotomize anything.

Use at your own risk.
Backup your STV
May cause cancer
etc
etc...

Hi. The link to this import in the download area still points to 0.4.7.
