Unsolvable Problem?

I am trying to run SageTV on a new hardware platform and am having some peculiar problems.

The hardware:
MSI RS482M4-ILD motherboard. (this is PCI-e baord)
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+
AOpen Nvidia 6600 PCI-e
Hauppauge 250MCE
SageTV 4.1.7 Bata

The problem:
The system will not return from standby when the SageTV UI is running. It seems to lock up as I have no video at all and must re-booth to recover.

Details:
If I run just the SageTV service the software works fine. I can run both the service and UI in any session and everything works fine. But once the system goes into standby with the UI running (in Sleep mode) it does not recover. I have tested other PVR software such as the trial version of BTV and GBPVR and the system will recover from standby when these packages are running so it seem to be an issue with SageTV.

I did report this to Tech support and have been working with them for quite some time. Their final reply was it looks like a hardware problem.. I believe they have taken that position based on the logs I have sent them which seem to indicate that the system in not ever really getting into standby. SO I have brought my problem to the forum in hopes someone may has a possible suggestion for a fix. IF it truly a hardware problem hat can I check ? Other then the motherboard it “run of the mill hardware”.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the latest drivers from Nvidia ?

ForceWare Release 80
Version: 81.98
Release Date: February 7, 2006

I had this same problem with sage using 81.98 dated dec26, 2005 and updated the drivers and my resuming issue disappeared.

hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't recall the version I am using but don't think it is that current. Will give them a try and let you know.

I downloaded the ForceWare Release 80 Version: 81.98
Release Date: February 7, 2006. However they did no solve my problem. STill will not come out of stanby.

One question where did you get the version date. the reason I ask is when I go into Device manage it shows the 81.98 driver but with a date of 12/10/2005.

Could you check in Device Manage and see if your's shows the same date. thanks.

Some improvement

I did a complete re-install and in so doing I went to the USB-UIRt web site to down load drivers and noticed that the current drivers are 1.4. I was previously using 1.3. With 1.3 the system would not come out of standby but with 1.4 it does. I still have a remaining problem. Now when the system come out of standby I loose connection to the USB-UIRt through SageTV. If I restart SageTV it will work just fine. Any Idea's ? thanks

Are you running FSE (Full Screen Exclusive) on Sage? If so, turn it off and try it.

heffe2001, thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it did no make a difference. I did have FSE turned on so as you suggested I turned it off exited Sage and restarted went into stanby but upon return no USB-UIRT connection. Is their any way to use the MCe receiver in place of the USb-uirt? I have it installed on the system based on the article in the SageTv wiki so I can shut down and startup from the remote.

Another thing to try is make sure you are running the latest bios for your motherboard.

Thanks but did that as well am running current BIOS. I have posted over at USB-UIRT forums to seen if I get any suggestion. Also have resubmitted to Tech with new log files. Perhaps something new will show up. Will stay at it until I find the solution.

did you also uncheck each USB hub " allow this device to be turned off to save power " ? this way, it will keep the power on to the hub that has your USB-UIRt connected to it. And see if that helps. with youe porblem

Also using the FEB 7 driver still says DEC 05 for my GT6600OC

Device Manager is show three USB Hub entries I turned the setting off for each one. Still did did not make any difference.

As info the first hub in the list under Power tab show USB-UIRT Device. The second Hub in the list shows USB Composite Device and eHome Infrared Receiver the their Hub in the list shows 8 ports available. Don't know what any of that means just though I'd throw it out teir as addl info.

Still Have the problem

Well my problem remains unresolved (see post 5 for the issue) SaveTV support just tells me that its a hardware problem with no suggestions. I have referred it to jrees over at the USB-UIRt form and he has promised to look into it.

I guess I am the only one in the SageTV world that has this problem. At this point I think it must be related to the Motherboard MSI 482M4ILD although I have updated the BIOS and DRivers without any improvement. Again any further suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're still having the problem and it goes away when you restart sage, then the little windows script I posted last night might solve your problem.

http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=16522

You will have to modify it to suit your needs but basically when the system resumes from standby, this script shuts down sage and restarts it. You will have to modify the script to point to the SageTV location on your hard drive.

It also closes and restarts my Hauppauge remote control blaster software (so you will likely want to delete the related lines).

If you're not familiar with the windows scripting host, you might want to read up on it first. Once the script is running, if you ever want to stop it, it will show up under task manager as 'wscript'.

AMAC, thanks very much. As it turns out I had already downloaded your script as a possible solution. It seem to me that if I can get it to just restart sagetv it should resolved my problem. Although I have no experience with scripting I will take your instructions and see if I can make it work. Will let you know.
