Power Strip Alternatives?
Just as the topic states: Are there any good alternatives to power strip? I thought this was a free program, then yesterday it closed and basically told me I needed to pay to use it.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind buying a licence, but I also have an ATI card (9600XT) and the latest catylist for it. I lots of settings for picture and resolution, but can't find anything my SONY will accept. It doesn't like 640x480i @60Hz! I had to tweak that with powerstrip to get it to work! I'm running my video out to a TRANSCODER and the Component lines to my TV, so there are several places to make changes. I would appreciate any suggestions, or comments. I'm considering adding 2 HD tuner cards, so a upgrade or system change may not be out of the question. Thanks. |

As a happy powerstrip user, I say go for it. It is hardly a bank breaking investment and it is very reliable.

I found the alternative.... A new ATI card! I saw that some ATI cards have COMPONET out, and some even thru the CATYLIST software can output up to 1080i. So the search was on.
I found the best card to keep cost down and do this was an ATI X1300 PRO. It's an excellent gaming card, and worked like a charm on my TV. I now have sage in 1080i, and the picture rivals my HD cable box, even for non-HD stuff it's showing at 1080i. With this setup, I'm set for games on the big screen, as well as I freed up another slot as I don't need a TRANSCODER any more! The only downside is that DVD movies are available only in 480i or 480p, but thats what my SONY 400 disc changer with HDMI and 1080P output is for! |

What Nvidia cards support HD out via a dongle or three component lines out without a transcoder?
I'm an ATI person myself, but have used s few decent Nvidie cards also, just not for HTPC use. I may need a second card for a new sage box I'm thinking of building for a friend. I'd like to try a Nvidia card as well as an Nvidea chipset on the MB. Raymond |
