2nd System w Recorder and/or Client

I've setup the Sage 3-tuner system I purchased from you. WinXP Home, SageTV (v1.3.8) , 3 PVR250's, Actisys, etc. I've got cable box input to one tuner and direct cable to the other 2 tuners. Everything seems to be working including Actisys. I've successfully recorded 3 different programs at the same time including one premium channel.

Now I'm ready to complicate things. At the same time I purchased an additional PVR250, Recorder & Client. I've downloaded Recorder & Client )both v1.4.10). The SageTV system (server) is hooked to the TV where I will do all viewing.
I will be installing the addtional PVR250 and Recorder on another system in another room with another cable box. Just realized I need another Actisys which I ordered today. This 2nd system will only be used for "overflow" recording, e.g. recording 4 programs simultaneously. The viewing of these programs will still be done on the TV connected to the server.

I think I know most of what I need to do next and in what sequence.

1. Install SageTV 1.4.10 over 1.3.8 on the server
2. Physically install the additonal PVR250 in the second machine
3. Install SageRecorder on the second machine
4. Follow the "network encoding" instructions found elsewhere in this forum
5. Configure the card in the second machine from SageTV in the server.

Which system (server or second) do I install Client on? When?

Thanks.

You've got everything right. The client gets installed on whatever computer you want to have access to SageTV from.

Thanks, started by installing the card (w/o drivers) and SR. Then really read the instructions for the network encoding. I would like to clarify the following from the instructions:

"The one main constraint is that all of the drives that are used by the SageTV server for storing video must also appear on the machine running SageRecorder as mapped drives with the same drive letters as the server."

The SageTV system you sent me (server) has drives C, D, F on one physical drive and G on the second physical drive.

The system that SR is running on has drives C, D, G, H, I all on one physical drive. I is the partition I've allocated for Video.

The way I read the above quote is that I need to reassign drives F and G on the server to say J and K, then in the SR machine map J and K to J and K. If this is correct, I know how to do it in WinXP but don't want to mess with it if I don't have to.

You can also use the network share paths. Like \\computername\sharename That makes it really easy (I should update that documentation..I'll do that now).
