How best to accomplish this...
I currently have 2 Tivo's and 1 ReplayTV. I would like to replace them with a SageTv system and have the following questions:
I would like to have one box with 2-3 pvr 250's or 350's. Each tuner would have cable input on the RF and different sources on the S-video input: Tuner 1, Cable on RF, Directv on S-Video Tuner 2, Cable on RF, Starchoice on S-Video (using XMLTV for guide data - yes I filled out the Canadian PVR survey). Tuner 3, Cable on RF, C-Band on S-Video (using XMLTV for guide data) Question, if I have all these tuners in one box and if they are the PVR-350's how do I determine which of the 350's output to send to the TV? I am assuming I can have one output to the TV that can view any of the channels from any of the tuners and recorded programs? If I don't use the 350's and use 250's I would use the video out of my regular video card correct? Any suggestions on a card that produces the best quality s-video out? I currently have an ATI AIW 9700. Coming from a Tivo environment, I am used to a very stable product (and my wife is used to a stable product). How much trouble can I expect stablity wise with the above system. I know the computer itself plays an important role, but I am interested in how stable the software itself seems to be. This is nothing like missed recordings because the machine hung up, or the software failed. Another Q: I really like the ability to see what recordings are upcoming, and from reading the manual it seems that when there is a conflict I can chose which will win, and whether or not they will always win. This doesn't seem quite as robust as Tivo's season pass feature though (which allows to prioritize all you recordings against each other). Does such a prioritization list exist, and if so is it exposed in the front end, or available with config file edits? Appreciate any input on the above! |

I think you asked too many questions at once. If you split this up into multiple post you might get a better responce.
Do some forum search and you should find posts on most of this stuff. You would only need one pvr-350, I'm not sure how well it works in a mult-tuner system, do a search. Yes, it would play shows recorded by any of the tuners. Your current video card is probably fine for TV-out if you don't want a pvr-350. The stability isn't going to match that of Tivo which uses all vendor selected hardware and software running on Linux. No SageTV doesn't have a priority list. I would recommend starting simple, just one pvr-250 and see how SageTV works out for you, before going all out and trying to build the ultimate PVR. |
