DVB-S (General Questions)

Hi Guys,

Being a current Sky user[UK Based] (with my 1year forced sub nearly done),i am starting to look a look at my other options.

Is anyone currently using DVB-S with sage (does sage support it yet?)..i am kinda stuck with DVB-S as opposed to DVB-T because i get poor aerial reception in my area)

Also does anyone using DVB-S have a list of channels availiable? (i imagine only FTA channels will be availiable ( and FTV channels will not?)

Im guessing anyone using DVB-S will get the same channels as people using DVB-T ..?

Thanks.

Are you talking about keeping your sky box and getting a freeview card for it? If the box is yours the card costs £20 IFAIK. You can pick up more than the normal terrestrial freeview channels this way.

I don't do this but a couple of my friends have gone down this route - I think Sky 'hide' the details on their website to make it difficult for people to find.

Some details here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/3793471.stm

Sky's freeview website here: http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/

Cheers,
SidKnee

I believe Anders is working on DVB-S - see here:

Other than that, there is no DVB-S support in SageTV as standard. You can probably get it via the MyTheatre plugin, though:

One thing to bear in mind is that the Beeb is likely to start broadcasting High Defnition via satellite in the near future; for that you will need a DVB-S2 card. There is only one in existence that I know of:
