Newbie question about remote scheduling
Hi everyone,
I'm looking at purchasing SageTV and have been comparing it to BeyondTV. One feature that BTV has that I really like is the ability to go to their Snapstream website and schedule recordings from any pc anywhere with an internet connection. Am i missing something or does SsageTV offer this? I've been reading about Placeshifting and is this their version of remote scheduling? If so, I've downloaded the latest beta and installed that. I'm looking into enabling the SageTV server and setting up the ability to placeshift. If this is the way SageTV does their remote scheduling is there a client that I need to install on my work PC to be able to get into my home server? Where can I find this client? Are there any other options for doing remote scheduling with SageTV that I've missed? Thanks for any help. Skenz |

The Placeshifter client offers the full SageTV User Interface at a remote location, including handling scheduling. Media is transcoded for remote playback.
You could also look into nielm's webserver customization, where you can manage your recordings & schedule, among other things, in a browser. - Andy

Remortely, nielm's Webserver plugin is best for scheduling as you can see a lot more info on-screen. And placeshifting is great for everything else. I used BTV first before switching to SageTV, and continued to use BTV for the web streaming until SageTV placeshifting was released. And I now I dumped BTV entirely. SageTV placeshifting combo with nielm's webserver is 10 times better than what BTV offered.

Thanks for the reply to my post about remote scheduling. I have nielm's web interface working on my local pc...but would you be so kind as to give me a run down on how I can use it from another pc outside of my network to do remote scheduling?
Thanks Skenz |

The WebServer wiki has a link for How to configure your system to allow remote (Internet) access.

Thanks again,
I'll give it a go. Just for curiousity sake...why doesn't SageTV offer this as something more simplified, like BTV?? Seems like a major miss on their part. Skenz |
