Video stutter during playback
I just recently purchased SageTV and have been trying to get it set up properly for a while now. The problem I have is that the video stutters once or twice a minute during playback. When it stutters, it is skipping ahead a few frames each time. I have confirmed that it is not a recording issue, since if i rewind back to before the point of the stutter and replay the same video it will play back fine the second time.
I'm running a PVR250 on an AMD 1000mhz cpu, Geforce2MX video card and Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card. I'm using the PowerDVD decoders also, but the stutter happens with the Intervideo decoders too. Also, the cpu usage is only at 30% during playback so I don't think the system is bogging down. What concerns me is that the PVR car, sound card and video card are all using the same IRQ (11) in WinXP and I think that may be part of the problem. If anyone has any info on what I could do to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob |

If the stutter is realy during playback only, then the culprit is probably your sound card (or something conflicting with it on the PCI bus). You may want to try moving cards to a different PCI slot. The Hauppauge does have a bug in the drivers that causes similar issues but you would see them again if you rewind to that spot - and it is normally more of a visual glitch.
Another test is if you see the stutter during shows that are currently recording and shows that are already fully recorded. I get stutters on Live TV shows all the time. I think my HD just can't pump out enough to be reading and writing at the same time. I think I further confirmed this by decreasing the recording quality and the stutters were reduced or elimated. The SoundBlaster Live is also notorious for causing things like that too. I stopped using mine and went to the built in AC 97 sound on my MB. Good luck. |

Try formatting your video partitions using 64K block sizes. That solves most cases of suttering on playback.
Thanks.
