Painless way to add % disk free to menu?

I know that in the user contributed software there's a way to add a disk-used/free indicator/graphic or text to the menus. I've tried it on my Sage Client.

I want to have an easy way for the family to see disk free/used in my sage server, but I don't want to risk mucking it up by switching to user software. I currently have two drives for Sage's recordings.

Is there a simple low risk way to backup of the GUI defintions and then with a simple text edit, add a disk-use text or graphic? If I break Sage, my WAF goes to zippo and so do I.

Everything related to showing the disk usage on any menus other than System Information is a customization... one of which is built into the default STV as an unsupported feature. See: Unofficial Secret Extra V4 UI Features... unless, of course, that was the one you don't want to use.

Edit: Oh well, I typed too slow.

Gosh, You'd think most everyone would want a "storage gas gauge" on the UI without resorting to such - and with all the disclaimers and warnings about user-beware, use at your own risk, etc. Geesh.

Well - As I understand, if I hose up the UI with 5309 secret code, I re-enter 5309 again and it toggles off- back to what I had?

Not really... many people let SageTV manage the disk space, so there really wouldn't ever be a lot of free space. Plus, the space to be used by future recordings is mostly an estimate that isn't extremely accurate for various reasons.

Pretty much, yes. If something doesn't get turned off, post about it in that other thread.

Is there somewhere to read *specifically* what gets deleted when space is needed? I know that shows marked Archive and manual recordings are preserved. But beyond that, the issue is not knowing what will be deleted if the disks fill.

I turned on the secret menus.
I then had to turn off the alternate styles, e.g., for the Recorded Shows menu.

Disk-used Gas Gauge is nice, but the font is too small (given the colors chosen) for those in this family with less youthful eyesight to see across the room. Higher contrast might work in lieu of larger font. Maybe.

You can read about it in Appendix C in the PDF manual. You can probably estimate the results by viewing the SageTV Recordings screen sorted as Intelligent (or reversed) w/no grouping.

This is exactly the reason I don't use the default "secret menu" disk status. Its too small and so is the font. I prefer the disk status option with nielm's dynamic menu stvi. I wish SageTV switch to nielm's version of the disk status option instead of using malore's tiny disk indicator. Also, in nielm's version, there's a "Next scheduled recording" info bar next to the disk status at the bottom, this is really nice and it should be apart of the default STV.

Sure I can use the nielm's dynamic menu, but its a pain to constantly install plugin everytime a new SageTV beta comes out, usually changes with the default STV. And everytime, I have to redo the dynamic import to update the STV. And its not just one machine, I have to copy it to all the client machines too. Maybe I'll make a batch script to do this ...

In a perfect world, SageTV would do a structured poll of users to rank the top 10 missing features.
