Evaluating MVP after buying base Sage product
I downloaded and installed the trial SageTV and Sage Client products; loved them; licensed them. So now I'm running the fully lincensed software.
I didn't have time to evaluate the MVP during the main trial period (I have an old MVP that I never made use of because back then the Hauppauge software client was crappy). How does the 'trial period' work for the MVP, once you have the fully licensed server component? I've searched the forum, but all I see are rants about the 'trial' overlay (which sounds pretty nasty, I must say - let me evaluate for a week trouble-free, and ... get over the WAF!). |

I believe the trial period will start when you first connect an extender or start a placeshifter client. (They use the same kind of license.)

If you enable the server mode and the MVP server in detailed setup (and setup the server to start in the sageTV service control program), you should be able to connect the MVP to your system and get it to boot up in trial mode. The trial mode has "TRIAL" floating around the video screen (similar to the SageTV logo in screensaver/standby mode). I guess it is a bit distracting but you can demo it that way. I exchanged my client license for an MVPclient (when they were doing the exchange) and have had no regrets.
Make sure you have not got ANY of the old Hauppauge MVP software (services included) installed on any of your machines or any GBPVR software (if you tried it). Since either of these can cause the MVP to not connect to the SageTV server correctly. Other than that, the only thing I have seen cause a problem is networking issues. Really, out of four I have installed and set up, I have had little trouble. |
