Sharing recordings between SageTV servers

Is there a way to do this? I figure I can do file sharing and import the directory, but is there a nicer way to do it than that?

Not really -- each server will see its own recordings as its own & the other server's recordings as imported videos.

There may be a strange side effect of SageTV being able to recognize its own recordings in an import directory, though... it checks the ID number on the file & matches that in its wiz.bin database to see if the file should be associated with an airing. If the same internal ID number (it is not the Show ID) is used on both servers for different airings, I wonder if SageTV will think an imported file incorrectly matches some other airing in its own database.

I have seen this firsthand. For a while I had an NFL game I captured on one server being identified on another as some Spanish language program. The amazing thing is that it was being shown as having aired on a date which had not even arrived yet!

Then that feature is broken with my sage. I always want to skip ahead in the news that I'm watching live...

Is there some reason the data for a show can't be in the video file? I thought you could put text tags in them.

In WMV files you can probably embed stuff like title and artist, but I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't do it for MPG files.
