Nice Media Center Computer for under $475
For those of us that can not find the time or don't want to build another sage box or client, here's a nice Media Center PC at a cost not that much more then a bare-bone PC.
Can any of you guys nitpick an find any reason to make this buy a no go? http://www.weeklycloseouts.com/page/...t&itemid=20038 |

This ain't going to hack it:
Video Chipset: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) Set some money aside to get yourself a decent card. You can get a 6600GT for about $130.00. Gerry

My needs are SD and HD video playback 720P and maybe some SD recording also but I'm not sure on that. But having the option never hurts
So the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) will not cut it ? Last edited by Fluffdaddy; 04-10-2006 at 12:47 PM. |

It's built -in, uses your system memory (So you won't have that full 512MB of RAM) and Intel® Graphics require dedicated memory and processing. So more CPU use too. It does support DirectX 9 and it wouldn't hurt to use it. It may be all you need for SD. But when the video starts stuttering and you're at 95% CPU use be prepared to shell out for the video card.

Dell is running an awesome deal that equates to 42% off any system $999 and up - would be a much better route to go.
The Gateway you refer to does have a PCI-E x16 slot - so upgradding the graphics would be possible, but count on adding about $100 more to the price tag. |
