Question TV Guide shows Trial Expired

It's not on every channel, but most and on some channels it's just some time slots and on other's it's most of the time slots. It's been working fine for six months or so without any changes, and just this week it started missing some of my favorites. So when I looked at the guide to see why I saw this in the listings. I hoped it would clear up when it updated the data but it hasn't.
Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

I had the exact same problem and I was told that my trial period is expired. Wow, I just installed it how can that be. I think its a bug with SageTV.

What version are you running? Is this still a trial installation, or have you purchased and entered a license? I believe the trial period is 15 days, so anything beyond that requires a license in order for the EPG & other parts of SageTV to continue functioning.

If you have entered a license, please contact tech support so they can determine what might be happening.

How long have you been using it? Your first post about using SageTV was on March 3. If you haven't purchased a SageTV license, then you are well past the 15 day trial period. If you have purcahsed & entered a license, then see my post right above this one.

Intially I was playing with it on a different computer. Then I built a new computer and till recently I was just replacing and trying variious components and thus reinsstalling the OS as well.
My current installation is less than 15 days.

After happy use for nearly a year, I'm having the same problem! I am using version 2.2.8.

This is definitely affecting the WAF!

Any ideas?

I was just stopping in to see if this was just me or not. Has anyone gotten a reply back from tech support yet and can post a solution, or should I go ahead an submit a ticket with them also? I'm not running a trial version, it's been running fine for 5 or 6 months now.

I first noticed this last night when a previously recorded show (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) was listed as a show called Trial Expired in my recordings list. And then this morning noticed that lots of shows in the EPG were called Trial Expired. Maybe I should add it as a favorite so I don't miss anything...

I'm still running Sage 2.2.8, since I haven't really felt the need to try upgrading to 3 or 4 yet (having no experience with trying to update Sage, I'm still just running the version I first installed). Maybe I should do that and see if that takes care of it? Are all of us with the problem maybe running V2?

Anyway, any solutions yet, or should I submit a ticket as well?

Edited because I'm running 2.2.8, not 3. The last time I was here I knew I was running the version before the latest, but back then the latest was 3, not 4. Oops.

As I keep saying:
  1. if you have purchased a license, have entered that license on your SageTV computer, and and are seeing "Trial Expired" in the Program Guide, then contact tech support so they can look into the issue for you & get it resolved. The same goes if you are a brand new user within the 15 day trial period.

  2. If you have been trying to use SageTV without a valid license, then your 'solution' is to buy a legitimate license.
Those are the two possibilities for anyone looking for ideas of what to do next.

One more person who also has a licenced copy of SageTV v2.2.8. I've had a few problems with Sage, nothing I haven't been able to overcome and nothing that has made me investigate other software, until this. It's obvious that the common component here is that everyone is using 2.2.8... now has Tech Support told anyone else how to resolve the issue?

Ok, I bit the bullet this evening and finally went ahead and updated to the latest version. I updated the webserver also while I was at it, and then forced an EPG update via the webserver, and all is well again. No more "trial expired" program listings. I managed to get my remote mostly working the way it worked in V2, and only have one or two nagging issues remaining (MP3 playback doesn't work anymore), and it might take a while to get used to the new layouts (or find an update to the STV I was using before) but for the most part it was a very smooth update (for the rest of you who, like me, just hadn't wanted to).

That is too bad that Sage forced you to upgrade to get EPG data. If you're happy and everything is working you shouldn't ever have to change.

I wouldn't say they forced me, since I could have always contacted support to try to get it fixed in V2. But I'd been meaning to upgrade anyway, so this was the kick in the pants I needed to actually sit down and do it.

There is no forced uprade occurring. I keep saying that anyone who has a license & is affected by this needs to follow up with SageTV tech support so they can resolve any problems. Such things as their version number and registration details would probably help support find out what the problem might be. (Don't post registration info here, of course.)

Just returned from vacation (Los Angeles) and was checking this subforum for my own entirely different thread. Ran across this one. Personally, I'm entertained by what I think I'm reading.

Andy is being slightly disingenuous when he says there is no "forced upgrade". I bet there is. But in a good way. For all you SageTV pirates out there, let me translate. BUY A LICENCED COPY because there is obviously a "Trial expired" time bomb in SageTV's EPGs. Ahoy me hearties! *tee hee* So stop making future complaints already. We now return you to your regular programming...

In the mean time, I'm upgrading my webserver and a whole bunch of other neat stuff (Sage and other) since I've been away most of April, before I leave again on Wednesday for my next vacation adventure (in Atlanta)!

I've been using 2.2.8 for over a year and I haven't upgraded because I know that everything I have working now won't work again without days and days of tweaking. I don't want to spend weeks trying to get the Comskip to work and my WRS. Is there a fix to 2.2.8 and it's just not being posted for fear the "pirates" will get the fix?

There is no fix on the user's side of things, as far as I know. Please follow up with support.

I also have v2.2.8 and have the same problem it just started last week and I was like WTF this is a licenced copy. I think this is pretty stupid. I also have not been able to make my webserver work for almost 6 months now. I used to be able to watch my recorded shows between classes on the other side of campus or even watch live sport center after my morning classes. I loved that feature.

Well, I upgraded to 4.0 and finally got the guide back but I couldn't get anything else to work (comskip, WRS, remote). The menu was completely screwed when I imported SVTs.

So now I reverted back to 2.2.8 and still no guide. I'm just not using sage to watch TV now and not sure if I will again.
