OEM Version as a network encoder
Hi Guys,
I have a XP based SageTV server (4.1.12) serving 4 PC clients (4.1.12) to which I have added a Linux Network Encoder (4.1.6). Sage Server: AMD 3000+, 6600GT, 1080i Plasma, 1GB Mem, 2 x PVR-150, 2 x Avermedia Hybrid HDTV A16A, USB-UIRT Linux Network Encoder: AMD 2600+, 512MB, Headless, 1 x PVR-250, Centos 4.2, ivtv version 4.1 * I can connected from SageTV Client to Linux Network Encoder and everything works perfectly. * Network Encoder Discovery works from SageTV server, finds Linux encoder and configures source fine. * When viewing Network Encoder channel from SageTV Server or Client I get "No Signal" error. I can see the capture file being created on the SageTV: "\\Mediaserver\Recording\1687498159_1_0415_1614-0.mpg" but the size never grows beyond 0 (zero) bytes * The GET_FILE_SIZE error continues until I stop the client watching the source. * I have tried deleting Sage.properties and Wiz.* and restarting ---- SageTVClient ---- Data",-1687498159@0415.16:00,120] host=mediaserver encodedBy=video0 on vmail:6969 Best \\Mediaserver\Recording\1687498159_1_0415_1614-0.mpg, Seg0[Sat 4/15 16:14:20.953-Thu 1/1 10:00:00.000]] ifn=null] nPlayin=false Sat 4/15 16:14:20.700 VF network encoder playback detected: false Sat 4/15 16:14:20.721 VF waiting for data to appear in new file...liveWait=253 Sat 4/15 16:14:20.722 VF thread is now waiting for 0:00:00.200 ---- Linux Server ---- Sat 4/15 16:14:20.897 EncodingServer Recvd:START video0 Composite|768268657|1|2290163321946|\\Mediaserver\Recording\1687498159_1_0415_1614-0.mpg|Best Sat 4/15 16:14:20.899 Uploading network encode to remote file: stv://768268657@192.168.0.200/\\Mediaserver\Recording\1687498159_1_0415_1614-0.mpg Sat 4/15 16:14:20.900 startEncoding for IVTV capture device file=stv://768268657@192.168.0.200/\\Mediaserver\Recording\1687498159_1_0415_1614-0.mpg chan=1 Sat 4/15 16:14:20.901 IVTV: video0 PVR card type is WinTV PVR 250^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@ Sat 4/15 16:14:20.969 Error with EncodingServer socket:sage.EncodingException: ERROR (179,0x2): There was a problem setting up software audio compression. Thanks for the info, I'll need to check that. The program tries to write the wrong file name it seems.

Submit a bug report on this. If you're trying to make it an encoder for a Windows server, then it won't work yet because there's some updates needed to the Linux capture code for this. To make it work with a Linux server, you can probably just do some config changes (but still submit a bug report http://sagetv.com/bugs.html and you will get a reply)

Hi Guys,
Just installed Version 5 beta and still get the same errors - Is this version expected to work as Network Encoder to a Windows server ? ----------------------------------------- Sat 5/27 18:49:45.791 Encoding server sent response to Socket[addr=/192.168.0.200,port=4889,localport=6969] Sat 5/27 18:49:53.960 EncodingServer Recvd:BUFFER video0 S-Video|193108021|1|16777216|\\Mediaserver\Recording\video0onvmail6969SVideo-0.mpgbuf|Best Sat 5/27 18:49:53.961 Uploading network encode to remote file: stv://193108021@192.168.0.200/\\Mediaserver\Recording\video0onvmail6969SVideo-0.mpgbuf Sat 5/27 18:49:53.962 startEncoding for IVTV capture device file=stv://193108021@192.168.0.200/\\Mediaserver\Recording\video0onvmail6969SVideo-0.mpgbuf chan=1 Sat 5/27 18:49:55.285 IVTV: video0 PVR card type is WinTV PVR 250^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^ @^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@Sat 5/27 18:49:55.511 Error with EncodingServer socket:sage.EncodingException: E RROR (179,0x2): There was a problem setting up software audio compression.Sat 5/27 18:49:55.802 EncodingServer received connection:Socket[addr=/192.168.0. 200,port=4891,localport=6969]Sat 5/27 18:49:55.803 EncodingServer Recvd:GET_FILE_SIZE \\Mediaserver\Recording \video0onvmail6969Composite-0.mpgbufSat 5/27 18:49:55.804 Error with EncodingServer socket:java.lang.NullPointerExce ptionSat 5/27 18:49:56.034 EncodingServer received connection:Socket[addr=/192.168.0. 200,port=4892,localport=6969]Sat 5/27 18:49:56.036 EncodingServer Recvd:GET_FILE_SIZE \\Mediaserver\Recording \video0onvmail6969Composite-0.mpgbufSat 5/27 18:49:56.037 Error with EncodingServer socket:java.lang.NullPointerExce ption ------------------------------------- Works fine when I use standard SageTVClient on a PC. Thats a shame - Do I need to log another bug against V5 ? I had logged one before against 4.0.6.

I am running 6.013 on the Windows machine and 6.0.12 on the Linux (can't seem to find 6.0.13 for Linux). I can connect to Linux via placeshifter and watch live TV, but just not through the Windows server. In the meantime, if I need to record 3 shows at once, I just have to placeshift into the Linux box to manually set up the conflicted show to record there. I actually had this same problem trying to use a Windows network encoder with a Windows server. I have since moved the tuner into a linux box, so I can't recreate that. |

I am still waiting for this as well - Purchased Linux version in March as a network encoder no joy - That said I knew that going in just figured it would be fixed quicker.

My goal is to get off of Windows completely, so I won't have a need for a Linux encoder with a Windows server.
However, I may at somepoint want to add another Linux box as an encoder when I run out of PCI slots on my server PC, so at that point, I will need to have a Linux Server / Linux Encoder pair that works. Of course, that would only happen if I need to record more than 4 things at once! And really, where would I find the time to watch that much TV anyway?? |

Does anyone know of the Linux version will act as a Network Encoder yet - I have had my Linux version for year now and still looking for a bug fix on this ?

Just wanted to post a "Me too" message in this thread. I have come up with a few potential solutions but alas, the java I know is the one I drink in the morn.
