Codec Installation

Is there something special I need to do to get Sage to recognize addtitional installed codecs, I installed about 20 new ones from a "Codec Pak" I had used for DVD backup and re-encoding but none of them were available in Sage, this included the DIVX codecs. I also downloaded the trial PowerDVD 5, but that one did not seem to show up either.
Are there only certain codecs that Sage will Use ?
Also... I remember reading somewhere about a filter that will remove station logo's from the screen. That would be cool if anyone else has heard of this.

What would you want to use those codecs for? Only MPEG2 decoders are selectable with Sage. I don't think any of the codecs used in that pack can be used in Sage.

Your PowerDVD (Cyberlink) decoder should be usable as a decoder though. Maybe try reinstalling it.

Thats what I wasnt sure about, if Sage could use MPEG4 codecs. trying to find the best possible quality. I have found that the DIVX are hard to beat when backing up /re-encoding DVD's.
Interestingly, the AVI files encoded with DIVX ARE playable through Sage Library.

Sage is realy just a front end to the Hauppauge Encoder (if you use hauppauge) and the software decoder that you select. So if you can play back the file with the decoder outside of Sage, Sage should be able to do it as well.

Other than space encoding to divx will just decrease the quality further becuase you would be compressing it a second time.

It would be nice though for the size to have the recompress ability like SnapStream on a favorite basis.

SageTV will use any codec you have installed to playback other media files from your Library if that codec is necessary for playback like your Divx example. You will not see these listed as options though because the options are only for MPEG-2 file playback.
