xVid not able to FF/Rew
I have a bunch of AVIs I've gotten from friends who use different programs to rip, encode their videos. They all end up as xVids.
When I watch them in SageTV in the Media Library I generally get 3 different outcomes. 1. The Timer goes from 0 to 60 (for a 1hr video) and I can FF/Rew without a problem 2. The timer is only at 0 and doesn't progress. If I FF/Rew it starts the video over again. 3. The timer starts at a seemingly random time (often 3hrs) and will advance to 4hrs. FF/Rew seems to work with these. Is there anyway to fix #2? It would be nice if #3 went from 0 to 60 but I can handle 3 to 4. BTW - All these videos play fine in WMP with the xVid codec installed. FF/Rew works for all of these. Ideas? Justin |

Sounds like you're adding them directly to the media library from say another PC or drive. If sage sees the file when it's being copied, it'll show up as a 0 byte file, and sage thinks it's am ampty file. Try renaming the file slightly and rescanning the libraries, it SHOULD work then (I used to get #2 alot when I copied directly to a library folder, I fixed it by copying it to a temp folder, then using move to put it in the library, unless you're VERY unlucky, you'll get it in the library with the correct time after that).

+1 on that. Files that I unrar/unzip or copy across HD's/PC's always go into a Temp file. Then, once finished, the files are moved into the proper folder that Sage has access to.
Since I started doing that, I have never had an issue with Sage choking on an import. |

I will definately take a look at that. That is primarily how I am importing my files. They are, through a script, being downloaded and copied from one PC to another. I guess I'll need to rework the script to copy to a temp, then move the completed file to its correct directory.
Unfortunately, since posting, I've been called away on business for a couple weeks, so I wont be able to try this until May, but I'll report back on what I find then. Thanx for your help Snuffy2 |
