recordings stopped early, is this a bug?

I very seldom watch recordings (live TV) while in progress, but I have recently watched two shows and do not like the behavior I am seeing. It appears that if I watch about 25 min. of a 30 min. show, sagetv thinks the show is watched. This part is fine with me, however, it appears that since the recording is in currently in progress and is marked as watched, SageTV stops the recording of the show. I do not understand this logic, I expect to be able to go back and watch the last few minutes if I want too.
Is this a bug? I believe it to be a bug, I see no advantge to stopping the recording a few minutes early.

are you 'stopping' the video from playing? I've found on the MVP, if a fav starts recording and I start watching after it starts, if I push the stop on the remote, then it stops recording.

Not sure if this happens in the latest versions since it's something I try *not* to replicate . . . !

Yes, I was using the stop command. After I made the post, I convinced myself that the stop command was the source of the problem. Since I almost always watch prerecorded shows, Stop meant Stop watching to me. But when watching live TV it appears to mean Stop watching and stop recording. So, I guess the more correct question at this point is how do I stop watching a current recording? Is there a stop watching command?

If the show you're watching is setup to actually record then I think you can press the stop button and it should finish the recording.

If you're watching it as "live TV" then as you found out pressing the stop button is going to stop the recording. If you press pause it will keep recording. The thing is if you're watching live TV it is going to continue recording even after the show's scheduled airtime ends until you press stop.

If you're going to stop playback, but want Sage to continue recording and it's going to be awhile before you finish watching the show you need to set it up as a manual recording. Press the record button and it will turn the "live TV" recording into a manual recording. I believe you can press the stop button then and it will finish recording the show and stop at the designated time.

This was the case, the show was in the recording schedule with the yellow border. I was using the client to view the show. The client is on the same computer as the server. I just realized that this issue is related to either the device being used or that I watched enough for the show to be marked as watched. I do this same thing when watching using the Media Extender, but I have not seen this problem. I usually do STOP the show just before its scheduled stop time to avoid the continued recording you mention below. When I do this on the extender I am viewing a hour long show and don't recall if I have ever been far enough into the show for it to be considered as watched.

Using pause will not accomplish my goal. The purpose of using the STOP is to prevent the recording from staying on the same channel. Some of my tuners record some channels better than others. I go to great pain to insure that certain channels are only recorded on a specific tuner. I have been burned by SageTV moving a scheduled recording from one tuner to another [without warning] so it can record on the same channel with the same tuner I am currently viewing. If none of the next recordings are not on the same channel as I am currently viewing, then I do get the prompt about whether to change or same on the same channel.

Using a manual recording sounds like it may work. My concern with this is that manual recordings usually get shifted to my primary tuner. Sine the recording is already in progress, I do not know if SageTV would attemp to move it to the primary tuner. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think the solution will be to either start watching a prerecorded show or to stop the client or maybe put it to sleep.

I do this all the time. So far I have never seen SageTV switch to a different tuner if I just press the record button and turn it into a manual recording. I won't say it will never do it but I have never had that occur on my setup so far. It does shift if it hasn't started to record however. YMMV.

Setting something to manual record that's currently recording won't switch to another tuner. There'd be no point to that.

The issue with it stopping recording of a Favorite after it's been marked Watched is a known issue and we're still thinking about an appropriate fix for it.
