Question about SageTV before I buy.

Well, congratulations guys! I'm sold now that you have streaming video (bye bye slingbox). I was wondering though, if I buy sageTV do I get the version for windows and linux or do I have to choose one? Reason I'm asking is because I've just began dabbling with Ubuntu and really like it and would love running sageTV from it, but also if I can't get it to work on linux I'd like to have an alternative.

The Windows and Linux versions use separate licenses, so they aren't interchangeable.

I use the linux version and the windows version and I love it. I suggest you look at the linux edition for the server side. It includes Gentoo and is typically installed with Gentoo. If you are an advanced user you can extract the needed files from the cd and use them to install the Sage server on most Linux editions. They are working on a seperate installer for the linux edition but it is not available yet.

Also, note that the client is available for windows pc. This is a less expensive version of the software, only $29 the last time I checked. I use linux on my server and the client software on my htpc. You may want to do this so you have full place shifting and two pcs will be able to use the software at the same time.

Best answer to this is probably: Which flavor do you like better? Windows or Linux.
