D10-200 serial control

Does serial control work on the D10-200 or not? Does anyone have this working. All I can find is anecdotal evidence about it working or not. The info I've found is also a little dated.
Can anyone help out a noob. I just got a test system working and my wife already loves it. We're getting D* soon and I want to get a few D10's beforehand. The D10-200s seem a little easier to find.

I think you need to get a D10-100 to use straight serial control. I think the D10-200 are USB and you're probably reading of people using a USB to serial converter.

The safe bet is to hunt down the D10-100s. I am not positive, but I don't think the D10-200s work reliably as stated on the DTVcontrol website. The site also says the D10-300s don’t even have a control port on them. So basically if you want it to work smoothly you’ll want those 100s. The D10-100s are still easily found on ebay, though they seem to have gotten a bit more expensive then they were when I got them.

The D10s; 100, 200, and 300 are serial control. The D11s are USB.

Thanks for the clarification. Obviously I'm not a Direct TV user.

Jimmy, I am in the process of quite a large SageTV install and I was told by a couple people that the D10-100's are the best for serial control. I just got 10 of them in yesterday and if you like I can try and test some out to make sure they work with the dtvcontrol software. The only thing that prevents me from having this now is I need to make some cables for them.

edit: Just checked the SG forum for you and found this thread (link). Post 5 by "Martin1" says the following :

I have two d10-100 and they both work with the low speed data port.
(with a SA tivo) The D10-200 and 300 don't work)

dbfresh : did you purchase a cable from the dtvcontrol.com guy or did you make one for yourself?

I made them myself. I went to the dollar store, bought a couple of telephone handset cables and cut one end off and crimped an RJ45 end on and then connected it to an RJ45 to DB9 adapter - works flawlessly.

Yeah they are coiled. Another option is to use serial cables and just cut them in half and crimp an RJ9(I think) end on each half and you've got 2 cables...

You may easily build your own cable as well. I built 4. See my schematic:

Although somewhat of a crude drawing, it gets the point across. My eyes started to blur when I looked at the table on dtvcontrol.com

Yes - crude but simple. For hours, I knew there were 3 wires and I could not find anything telling me which one goes to which and even when they said #1 or #2 I wasn't sure if that was the "male" or "female" end of the db9 (by default, I know now unless otherwise specified it does refer to the male pins - my numbers refer of course to the female connector as specified). "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Great job none the less mike! I will certainly be using this drawing when I make some cables this weekend.
