Unhappy Please point remote control... nothing

This is an ongoing part of my troubleshooting. My list of problems seems overwhelmingly large, so I'm going to try to fix them 1 by 1. So this issue is:

During "Setup Video Sources" > Add New Source > Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture #2. I select TV Tuner Channel 3 & "use external cable receiver to tune channel". I pick USB-UIRT & Motorola DCT2244.

I get "Please point remote control... Press 0 and hold until told to release it." I would be holding it until I die because SageTV never tells me to release it. The USB-UIRT begins flashing when I press 0, and it flashes for a couple minutes. I can repeat several times, but SageTV doesn't recognize the action.

2nd question: Can anyone tell me what this step does? Does SageTV not know the remote commands for the Motorola DCT2244 already? Why do I have to train it?

Is the remote very close to the USB-UIRT when you are trying to teach the codes?

And, I'm not sure if this is still an issue, but if you are using service mode, try going through setup w/o using the service.

Yes, the remote is very close.

How do I go through setup without the service? When I start SageTV, it initializes the service.

I just completely uninstalled SageTV, deleted the program files folder, and started clean. Now, when I set up a video source, at the screen where it shows the channel lineup, I get a blank screen with no option to continue! SageTV is killing me!

This is the screen where it should say "Done with channel setup - Continue". I get nothing but the boiler plate text at the top and no option to continue. SageTV forces me to go thru the whole setup again, and all it does is get stuck at the same point again.

You can use the service control program to disable service mode -- SageTVServiceControl.exe.

Make sure you get rid of your properties file & any autobackups & start over. It sounds like something is still in the properties file that shouldn't be. And, if you've deleted the entire SageTV intall directory, make sure it was where it is really where it was installed.

Thank you. I did disable the service and that solved the setup issue.

Just curious what version of Sage are you running? I'm kind of surprised that this bug still exists.

I'm surprised too. I had seen it in a post in version 2, so I assumed it was fixed long ago!

I'm running 5.0.2

I haven't been paying attention to that one in the release notes, so I don't know the status of it, but you could file a report to let SageTV know it still happens.
