new corrupt video problem

The problem:
40% to 80% of the videos that I record are corrupt (i.e., pixilated).

What is known about the problem:
1) Corrupt videos are pixilated when I try to watch them on my TV (using Hauppauge 350 hardware decoder). Non-corrupt files play fine on TV.

2)Corrupt videos cannot be burned to DVD- they lock my computer up when I try to import them to DVD burner software (e.g., Ulead Moviefactory 3.5, Sony Architect, etc). Non-corrupt files import fine.

3)The problem is with SageTV. When I record videos using the native Hauppauge software, the recorded videos are always perfect.

4)The corrupt videos are NOT pixilated and play fine when I watch the videos on my computer using the following applications:
a.SageTv
b.Hauppauge software
c.Womble
d.Sony Vegas 6

Thus, the problem is getting these videos to TV or DVD, not watching them on my computer.

Hardware and software:
AMD 2200 XP
1 GB RAM
Hauppauge 350
Sound Blaster Audigy 4
NVIDIA 128 MB video card

Windows XP
Most recent Hauppauge drivers/applications
SageTV 5.0.1.89
Java 1.5.0_04

Any questions or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

yes

I have the same problem. It still occurs but has gotten worse (higher likelihood) with v5.

I think the problem with the file itself has something to do with the audio not being the correct length/synch. If you remove the audio through a demux process, try womble, you should be able to use your video data in any application. Then view it on the screen without the audio. Try that.

On early v4, I found that using the service improved results. It would be nice to be able to set the priority of the service to something like high so that it would still not effectively crap out at the slightest use of processing power for other activities.

Cut your net connection, close apps, trash services, etc. and this should improve results further. But again, it would be nice to have other things opened while recordings--even though it does sometimes do this thing without anything else running.

Sometimes, I swear I can even hear the program--the only net app running--polling for new EPG data while a recording is in process. Sure enough, there's a botched file waiting for me afterwards.

Yes, the problem took a turn for the worse after downloading version 5. For example, prior to installing v5, approximately 10% of my files were corrupt. Now it seems like every video I record is pixilated.

I removed the audio stream and now the video looks fine (i.e., a little choppy but not pixilated). However, I would rather watch and listen to the show on my computer than watch it on my TV without sound.

I will try your other suggestions. Thanks for the comments.
