How to get a clean channel change

When I need to quickly stop watching something that has becomes inappropate, I quickly select the Program guide menue. The problem is when I then select a different channel, you allways get a few seconds of the last channel that was selected before the new channel selection is updated. Can this be avioded? Thanks

Since it is actually recording to the drive it would be hard to make it occur any faster. I would recommend if it is inappropriate hit channel up or down first and then go to the Guide to choose a program.

Or, just use the Stop command to stop playback almost immediately. Then, you've got plenty of time to choose something else.

The problem with this method is when you resume watching (a different channel selection) you still get 2-3 seconds of the previous channel before the switch is made. And to make things worse it picks up on the same scene you were trying to avoid in the first place. 2-3 seconds is not going to work for me or my family when something is just not watchable. I have played around with this issue and it seems that the only way to aviod this is to shut down Sage and restart it or mute the volume and tell everyone not to watch for a few seconds when you resume with a new channel selection. There should be a better fix. Please advise if this problem can be resolved. Thank again.

I don't think I have noticed this behavior at all. But, I use the HIP program with the USB-UIRT. The commands I'm sending to Sage when the stop button on the remote is pressed are:

Home and then Control-G

This quickly gets to the main menu and the control G issues then stops the recording. I also do it in that order so that I don't need to tell Hip to delay between commands whereas the reverse I would need a delay. When I go back to the guide and select another show I have never had the prior program continue; in fact, Sage would in a short time delete the file off the disk unless I were recording it. Either way, I have never seen the end of a prior show.

EDITED: If you don't want to use HIP, try the Home and STOP commands or if you are concerned because it takes you longer because you are not using HIP, issue the stop first, then Home then go to the guide and see if that works.

Mike.

Are you using a set top box? And have you tried Opus4's suggestion of using the "Stop" command. By using that Sage will start a new recording on the new channel when you select play. The only time that you'd catch the old channel is if Sage is tuning an STB, for which there is not an easy solution (and I'm not sure why closing Sage would change it anyway).

First off - are you trying to do this running SageClient?

I'm running SageClients and have 4 stb's on my Sage Server and have never had a problem at all. One thing though....I'm using serial cables and not IR.

Edited: The only other things I can think of off hand is if you are using IR and the cable box is nearby you could use a remote to change the cable box to another channel after pressing stop while at the main menu in Sage and not viewing anything at all. Otherwise, you could probably minimize Sage and then change the channel. It sounds to me like your best bet might be to go serial if you have IR.

The answer

First of all, thanks to all who responded. The problem is that I am useing a set top box. To fix my problem I can do the following: 1) Go to the program guide (to stop the viewing. 2) change the channel on the set top via its IR codes to for example the weather channel (not from Sage operated IR sender). 3) change the cannel via Sage to the weather channel.

The worst is when the first 5 seconds of a subsequent programmed recording starts off with some scenes of torid oral sex. Hard to explain to the wife
'Geez I did'nt know 'Desperate Housewives' was so risque these days.
