MVP Freezes

I added the Extender license last week and everything was fine until a couple of days ago.
Now every time I turn the MVP on it flashes the Sage startup and gives a screeching sound and freezes, won't even power down. Unplug power for a few seconds and plug back in. MVP goes through the application load and boots up fine and operates as normal until I power off. Power off and then try to power on again same thing happens. I have done this multiple times. Seems MVP will now only operate if I do a new application load every time.
Any Ideas...

OK After reading a few other posts I deleted the clients folder and restarted the MPV. Had to go through the full setup again but it seems to have fixed the problem. Do you know why this happening seems several people have had the same problem.

The MVP's properties file is getting corrupted somehow -- I don't believe it happens very often, but it should be fixed in a future update.

Did you install the v5.0.3 update? It should contain a fix for this problem.

I have the same problem and it is not fixed in 5.0.3. Support told me that it will be fixed in ver 5.0.4.

I loaded 5.0.3 and will wait to see if it is fixed... I hope you can get to the bottom of this because it works great other that this problem. The only thing that I can think of that took place on the latest issue was I cliked on the SageTV icon when Sage was running by mistake, it just popped up my sleeping Sage on the server, but could this be what is causing the problem.

MVP freezes

I also have a similar problem that appears to affect the mvp. I have been using sage for about 3 months and the mvp for about a month. Last week the mvp stated to studder/freeze. Every 10 - 15 minutes it will stop playback 5 - 15 seconds them resume. There is defininitly some activity on the task manager performace monitor although not 100% more like 60 - 70%. I don't see this happening on the computer/server. I don't associate this problem with the 5.0.2 update because I did that when it first came out, but I will update to the new version today.

update: I just caught the computer/server doing it also.

I think we are talking about to different problems here.

The issue that Trevorts originally addressed is that the mvp freeze at boot up. Thats a bit different from the problem you guys are talking about. I can’t help since my mvp so far works fine if it pass the boot-up.

I will try 5.0.4 tonight to see ef the bootup freeze problem has been solved.

I agree I have had no problems with it freezing during use, just at startup. It is caused by the clients file being corrupted. Looks like you both have a different issue that you should report.

I have the same problem some of the others have mentioned. 5 minutes into watching any recorded show it freezes, I then proceed to ff 5 seconds and everything is fine. This does not happen with imported video, just the stuff sage recorded. This started happening with one of the 4 betas and I opened a trouble ticket, but I have not had the time to perform the tests asked.

Support told me that the problem with the boot up freeze would be solved in ver 5.0.4 but I’m afraid it has not.

I’ve downgraded to java 1.4.2 as Narflex suggested, if you have stability problems, and I’ve tried to re-generate the mvp property file, because I’ve read that some earlier version of Sage could pollute the mvp property file. In the past I've done several clean install.

Nothing has helped. After a hard boot I can normally make one successful on/off cycle. When I hit the remote for boot up the second time I get the Sage boot up logo followed by a high "screech" sound before the screen goes black and the mvp is dead. I have to pull the power to bring it back to life.

It has been like that for many months now and I can’t remember how many versions of Sage, and my wife is not happy!

I've posted the log file I'll post to support. It shows a successful on/off followed by a unsuccessful on. What about you Trevorst. Did 5.0.4 fix it for you?

Just for your information.

I think I've solved my problem.

I hardcoded the IP address for my MVP in my DHCP server in the router. I then rebooted the router and Sage. Apparently the MVP is very sensitive with DHCP.

Hmm I’m afraid I was a bit too quick with that announcement.
